Dating back to the 1950s, Cherry Grove Pier is an iconic landmark in North Myrtle Beach. It has a rare two-story observation deck and has been the setting for countless historic fishing triumphs over the decades. Stroll out to the end of the pier to enjoy the unforgettable views of the Atlantic Ocean, with sunrise and sunset particularly scenic.
Climb to the top of the wooden observation deck at the end of the pier for an even better vantage point from which to admire the ocean. With a U.S. flag rising from its roof, the viewing structure resembles a small fort. Gaze back upon Cherry Grove Beach when it’s bathed in warm sunlight.
Have a meal or drink at the Boardwalk Beach Café. If you prefer to catch your own food, purchase tackle and bait from the gift shop. Sit with your legs dangling from the pier, rod and reel in hand, as you await your catch of the day. Bluefish, sea trout, summer flounder and spadefish are among the marine creatures you’ll find. Go crabbing from the pier for a chance to catch a tasty blue crab.
Back on the sandy strand, enjoy a picnic or work on your tan, while listening to the soothing movement of the waves.
Note that since its inception in the middle of the 20th century, the pier has survived many hurricanes. The structure, which is owned by the Prince Resort North Myrtle Beach, was renovated and lengthened to 985 feet (300 meters) in 1999.
Cherry Grove Pier is in the Cherry Grove Beach neighborhood in the northeastern part of North Myrtle Beach, in the southeastern corner of South Carolina. The pier extends over the Atlantic Ocean, near the waterway of House Creek. While in this part of the city, make sure to see some of the surrounding sights, such as the Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve, the Heritage Shores Nature Preserve and the Surf Golf and Beach Club.
