The Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults Only is a beautiful property! Very clean, compact lovely common areas, pool area, and delicious drinks! The beach is picture perfect and the water is truly that color, with a soft, sandy beach bottom. Small seaweed could be seen but not bothersome nor dirty. It is a glorious resort!!! Staff are all soooo very nice!!! BUT, you should be aware that the larger, sister property next door can come use the beach, pool, and buffet (for a small extra fee). So, the spring break kids came from next door for the latter part of our week, and they are loud and intrusive a lot of the time (yes, not all, but enough to be bothersome). So, be aware of that. I had hoped that the extra price of our hotel would insulate us from this but, alas, it did not. Last, the kiosk at the sister property for a snorkeling trip to Catalina Island is a sham! They told us we would get lunch on the beach on the Island. Not true. They feed you at the end of the trip, at 3:30pm. We were all starving and folks on our trip were quite angry and vocal about being ripped off. At the end, yes they provided a buffet that was delicious but 3 hours later than promised. there was no other food to buy or eat. $140 and it was a 11 hour day for 2hours of snorkeling and a small buffet lunch. And, they kept stopping at tourist places to try and get us to spend money. Rip off! But, the Barcela Bavaro was not affiliated with this organization. Dated property with very mediocre service and staff attitude. Location along the ocean is the draw (and ocean views are magnificent). Overall it’s a 3 star operation at a 5 star location.

Overall a great property with lots of amenities, water park, lazy river (nicely designed), lots of bars and restaurants. Great bowling alley. Decent nighttime shows. Some great food at the buffets but mostly just okay. The specialty restaurants we tried were all very good. Main complaint would be lack of service around pools and sometimes at the beach. Seemed like restaurants were inadequately staffed to provide quick service and were also not open to capacity due to staffing. Loved the decor in all the common areas, restaurants and rooms. A great vacation for our family of 5! (Kids ages 9, 11, 14)
