Nicht zu empfehlen.

Posted Sep 1, 2016

Sehr lautes Hostel in idealer Lage

Posted Aug 29, 2016

Please remember: they're dorms.

Posted Aug 24, 2016
Went there for the Edinburgh Fringe, and these dorms made into a hostel for the summer are perfect for that. The rooms are bunched into sections that share a bathroom and full kitchen, and those sections take bigger sections of a couple different buildings on opposite sides of a street in the middle of everything. (It can all seem pretty maze-like at first.) In part, that means lots of noise from the streets - especially during Fringe and other festivals - but I was doing so much running around during the day, I was so exhausted coming back and slept like a rock. It was great to go to shops and pick up some food, then have it all in the large fridge to cook up in the morning and when I'd get back - a big $ saver when you don't want to pay to eat out every night. Everything is very simple and bare-bones (you even pay a pound for a towel), but the folks at the front desk are really nice, and even during the busiest times, the traffic with other guests is minimal. For what it is, it's really good. Just don't expect a hotel.

Personal super nett & zuvorkommend, perfekte Lage, alles in wenigen Gehminuten erreichbar.

It is what it is

Posted Aug 22, 2016
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful, it was exactly what we needed and not too expensive for the festival.
Location: It was the Edinburgh Fringe....there is everything to do nearby...everything!
This is a hostel (converted from Student halls of residence for the Edinburgh Festival) It is in the middle of the Old Town / Cowgate area, which means noise during August. Anyone who does not realise this, is clearly delusional. We loved it. It was basic, simple and near everything we wanted to do.

Typical Edinburgh festival rip off

Posted Aug 6, 2016
Run down student accommodation rented out as twin rooms during the summer. Poster in staircase says "from £20". Festival price: £60 weekdays, £80 if booked in advance, £120 on the day. Normal student furniture shoved into a corner and an extra bed crammed in. One flat did have cutlery and crockery in the communal kitchen, the other one had only plastic forks and paper plate beyond one porcelain plate. Kettle had the lid glued shut but got exchanged. With these prices towels are not included and £1 extra each. Brewdog pub underneath means first floor rooms facing Cognate are best avoided.

Know what you are getting

Posted Jul 29, 2016
This is student accommodation repurposed for the summer. It's not a hotel. Expedia could do a better job making that clear. It's cheap, small rooms, camp beds, shared bathrooms and it's noisy. But, Edinburgh is a busy, loud city and there's going to be street noise into the wee hours anywhere in the city, so you'll get the same noise anywhere. No towels or anything else provided, so bring your own, and earplugs would be nice to have too. Having a shared kitchen is great for self-catering and saving some money on food, and the location is excellent and staff are very helpful. Would absolutely stay again. Thanks!

There was a strong smell in the room, but the room and toilet are generally clean.
