Please remember: they're dorms.

Went there for the Edinburgh Fringe, and these dorms made into a hostel for the summer are perfect for that. The rooms are bunched into sections that share a bathroom and full kitchen, and those sections take bigger sections of a couple different buildings on opposite sides of a street in the middle of everything. (It can all seem pretty maze-like at first.) In part, that means lots of noise from the streets - especially during Fringe and other festivals - but I was doing so much running around during the day, I was so exhausted coming back and slept like a rock. It was great to go to shops and pick up some food, then have it all in the large fridge to cook up in the morning and when I'd get back - a big $ saver when you don't want to pay to eat out every night. Everything is very simple and bare-bones (you even pay a pound for a towel), but the folks at the front desk are really nice, and even during the busiest times, the traffic with other guests is minimal. For what it is, it's really good. Just don't expect a hotel.
