"This hotel had a great location a block from a very nice riverfront paved walkway that went on for at least 3 miles. The room was large but in need of an update. The shower was large with great water pressure. The free breakfast was very nice and covered all the food groups. This hotel has NO onsite parking. We parked across the street for $24.00 overnight. I would stay at this hotel again."

"The hotel has a warm, wood-based feel that gives it a character not shared by most commercial hotels. Our room was large and comfortable. A drink in the lobby restaurant was expensive, but well-made and generous in size. The surroundings are quiet, tree-shaded, and peaceful. We would happily stay again."

"This location is perfect for us. We didn’t eat at the restaurant upstairs this time because Portland does have a lot of great choices, however, it is good food, and I love the possibility of that. The room was clean as could be the bed was comfortable – I like everything about this hotel except perhaps valet parking."

"I really enjoyed this hotel, I love historic hotels it is a beautiful building that honestly could use some T.L.C. that being said it was very clean with good amenities, a fresh breakfast and comfy bed in a large room, good sheets fluffy towels 😃. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, But not too bad, simply be aware. I traveled as a solo female. I would definitely stay again."

"Hotel was a relatively clean place to sleep and cleaning staff were pleasant. Physical condition of hotel needs work. Our key cards needed to be reset 4-5 different times because they randomly got demagnetized. Door to our room was physically difficult to open. Outdoor access door was supposed to be a card key entry, but they did not actually lock. Anyone could open the door from the outside. Front door staff were not attentive, carried on side conversations while checking us in and did not effectively address our key card concerns. "

"The Mark Spencer is not what it was. We have stayed here I think four times and the most recent visit likely will be our last. First kudos to the staff for being solicitous and very helpful. However our room was not cleaned well. We found an old soap wrapper in the bathroom, some lost headphones under the bed, and a spent coffee packet in the coffee maker filter basket. We didn't dare use any of the mugs or glasses in the room, some of which were visible dirty. Apparently the booking included a bottle of wine, which no one offered us. We didn't miss it but the principle of the matter is indicative. The breakfast options were nice to have but would have been better if the advertised fresh fruit had been available. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast sandwich but received it on an English muffin instead of the requested croissant. Not a huge deal but again, indicative of the attention being paid to details. Top notch drip coffee from Peru and a very good espresso helped. From check in to check out the staff uniformly were helpful and courteous. John greeted us out front upon arrival and when he learned that we were running late he most graciously helped us get our bags to our room, as we had to park across the street due to the garage being full. Easy parking which was nice. It saddens me to see what was a home-away-from-home fail to meet the standards we used to appreciate at this handsome old hotel."
