We arrived after 9pm owing to being delayed earlier on the day, and left early in the morning so cant comment on many of your questions. However, there were a good selection of take away shops still open for food. We have been to Fort William many times and it is a lovely place to stay and a good base to travel throughout the Highlands.

There are weeds coming out of the gutters, roof, and chimney. The plaster is cracked on the outside of the building and there is mould and damp along the walkway to the adjacent building with rooms. Stayed in a classic room, there was mould in the bathroom ceiling due to limited ventilation. The shower curtain was too short meaning water went on to the linoleum flooring causing mould around the sink and bath. The non-slip bathmat had seen better days. The windows in the room were difficult if not impossible to close because the frame was no longer square. The curtains were old with holes in the blackout later causing light to break the. Overall the hotel and the room is dated and suffering from under investment and modernization for 10-15 years. Whilst the structural and more major issues with the property would be costly to repair, there are basic, low cost items such as a new shower curtain, non-slip bath mat and toilet paper that was not the cheapest available which could make a significant improvement to the room. The bedroom was clean. Staff were pleasant. The classic room was not worth more than £75-80 per night. I did not request an alternative room from reception as seeing the mould, damp, crumbling plaster (sometimes missing plaster board along the covered walkway) I had no confidence that any alternative room they would suffer could be significantly better than the one I received.

This hotel is on the outskirts of Fort William and within walking distance of the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre and the start of the Mountain Path. We stayed for 2x nights to climb the peak. Overall, the hotel is a dated and bleak place. It's kept in business purely due to its proximity to Ben Nevis. Essentially, but for the location, it is likely this hotel would have closed years ago. The hotel facilities are generally poor and not at all as represented in Expedia photos. The complex needs extensive refurbishment. For example, the bedroom window once opened were a struggle to close, the bathroom extractor fan didn't work & black mould was present. The tiling in places were a mess from poor patch and fix work. Also worth mentioning was the water pressure on the shower, was similar to that of a jet wash and would be uncomfortable/painful for younger children and some elderly folk. In all, it is a very 'Fawlty Towers' Esq hotel, right down to missing letters on the signage and dilapidated exterior. It urgently requires major refurbishment, potentially even a complete demolition & re-build. Given it did not appear to be fully accessible to all, as there were no evident lifts to the upper floors within the complex. Albeit, in the main facilities, such as, reception, pool and restaurant are on the ground floor. Which did appear fully accessible with ramps etc. The staff were all very friendly, approachable and professional.

The reception staff at the hotel were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself has no lift, so be ready to haul luggage up to your room, and overall the building was somewhat shabby and in need of some TLC. We had an evening meal in the hotel, and this was very disappointing. The food was not fresh, being processed and pre-prepared, and no one checked whether the meal was satisfactory. Having chosen red wine to go with the beef dish we had chosen we were served turkey. The table was dirty with no tablecloth. There was a coach party in the restaurant and their tables had cloths, and the staff spent their time kow-towing to them and ignoring other guests. Breakfast was little better. The room was dated and had insufficient electrical sockets. In order to use the hairdryer, for example, it was necessary to unplug the TV. The floorboards in the bathroom creaked worryingly and moved as you went round the room. The shower curtain rail was rusty, the shower curtain dirty and the toilet brush was filthy. The bathroom had no effective ventilation. Outside the room there was broken guttering with evidence that it had been leaking over a long period. Unfortunately, we stayed during a period of heavy rain and the noise from the water was incredible. The room was not serviced during our stay. On the plus side, the hotel is convenient for exploring Fort William and the Nevis Range, and you can see the range whilst swimming in the Hotel pool.
