"The check in person was nice and friendly. The pool was out of service. The rooms can definitely use a renovation including the flooring. The floor boards are sagging and can hear the creaking with each step. Better towels would be great as they’re a little rough. Also, shampoo and conditioner would be nice instead of just bar soap in the bathroom."

"The place wasn't terrible and the staff was pleasant. The name and photos are misleading. This is basically a motel trying to seem like an inn or small hotel. It looks like the type of place that attracts a questionable clientele, but because it's Old Saybrook, they probably get a lot of wedding/event guests. The room itself was clean and pleasantly furnished, but the one easily accessible outlet was worn out and chargers kept falling out. The tub had a large crack in it (we did not use it). It was overall fine if you're staying for those reasons or a long distance travel break, but if you're looking for a couples weekend/nice place to stay, this isn't it."

"Gardener is the best host we have worked with. He is on top of everything, and makes sure we have what we need. In particular he focuses on small appointments that make the stay enjoyable, making sure the house is clean and everything works, and he is very easy to communicate with which we appreciate so much. We highly recommend this property"

"The place is in dire need of a makeover. In the bathroom... No exhaust fan... Hinges and towel racks are rusted... Wall paper is peeling off the walls... Tub/shower faucet is connected wrong. Hot is cold and Cold is hot... Door has noticeable cracks. The front half of the room had no lights. Until this place get renovated, I will not stay there again."

"The building and grounds need maintenance. There's rotting window sills and rain damage on the ceiling, spots of bleach on the carpets and the doorknob of a closet came off in my hand. The TV in the room is incredibly small, the size of a computer screen. You don't come to a hotel to watch TV but like showers, you expect a nice experience. The breakfasts were ok, but not great."

"While it appears they are in the midst of renovating, ie, painting, new carpets in hallway, the pool was not open. Later read reviews that it hasn't worked the last 3+ years! False advertisement for pool as well as breakfast. Didn't bother w/breakfast as I read another review that it was "grab & go" coffee & a waffle! How does one enjoy a waffle to go? The room "216" itself was OK but the shower curtain was grungy at the bottom, towels mediocre. Ironing board broken & bottom dresser drawers kept opening. Left a maintenance request so hopefully fixed for next person. On the brite side, staff was pleasant."
