"Location is very convenient as it's a 3 min walk from Hakone-Yamato station. The onsen public bath is spectacular with baths inside and outside! The hotel is old but well maintained."

"We stayed for one night at Tsuki no Yado Sara and had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking the river and is only a short (5-minute) walk from the town. The restaurants in the area are quite expensive and busy, but there is a Lawson and 24-hour 7/11 nearby where you can pick up food. We had a river view room so we could look over the river and mountains while using our private bath. The room was perfect, very large and equip with all the necessities and comfy beds. There is also a public bath and two private baths available for hotel guests (no extra charge). There is a free drink bar with beer, wine, and spirits on the 3rd floor, as well as a free coffee and tea bar in the lobby. The hotel staff were wonderful, very helpful and polite. We booked the traditional Japanese-style breakfast, which is ready at your table on arrival to your reservation. The food was delicious, with so many courses. Overall, the stay was lovely and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Hakone. We would definitely come back! "

"The hotel was really nice, the hot tub in the room was great, we did not use the public baths so I cannot comment on them. Food was great, good variety and exceptional service. The only negative thing was the towels in the room were very bad, thread bare and worn, totally different than everything else at the hotel."

"I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels in my time and I have to say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Check in isn’t until 5pm but check out is 1pm. The welcoming staff were super friendly and very helpful. You have amenities in your room but they have extra in the lobby. Who knew heated eye pads were a thing! That I now need in my life. The room was amazing with a king bed and a 3 piece bathroom that has an onsen and a separate shower that use water from the hot springs. And oh my god, the bed is the best. The softest sheets I have ever slept on and the quilt makes you feel like you are sleeping in a cloud. (In hindsight I wish I had taken the quilt and have charged me to buy the quilt, it was that amazing) we checked out as late as we could just so I could lay under the quilt. I’m just annoyed with myself that I only booked this for 1 night."

"There are some big “mega hotels” in the area, but I think staying in one of these would be missing the point of staying in Hakone. Yushintei instead captures the essence of the area. With its private onsens (small, medium and large) and spacious rooms with toki baths, Yushintei makes for a fantastically relaxing stay. The staff were wonderful - they were polite, helpful and very accommodating. The hotel is walkable to and from Hakone-Yamumoto station, but the K bus also runs conveniently close for when you have luggage. One word of caution, if you’re catching an early Shinkansen upon departure from Odawara, don’t rely on an advance Uber booking to get you to the train station. Ours was a no-show at 0535 and none of the local hotels could get any of the local taxi companies to come and pick us up. Instead, we luckily managed to get a taxi via the “Go” app as we ran to the train station. So, best either avoid taxi or make sure you’re already at the train station so you can fall back on the train (the first train of the day would still be cutting it close for the early Hikari Shinkansen!)"
