Empress Hotel

1317 Ursulines Avenue, New Orleans 70116 - Map
"It was OK."
The Hotel staff was very very friendly and the area is great but if you plan on staying on a hotel to relax this is not the one. The other guests were very noisy at night, the mattress had a plastic wrap that made us sweat at night. Bathroom had a vomit smell on the first day and it wasn't the prettiest bathroom at all. We had a cockroach visit one night.. it was pretty nasty. It was worth the price since we didn't intend to enjoy the hotel itself.

"Lovely historical hotel"
This hotel has so much character with lots of history. Set in the perfect location, Royal Street, amidst lovely shops and art galleries, it is right in the hub of things! we booked the standard room and although on the small side it was very clean and the beds were very comfortable with beautiful linen. Pillows were excellent!!

The majority of the LGBT nightlife happens in the historic French Quarter, so spend the evening listening to live jazz music before dancing the night away in one of the bustling clubs on Bourbon Street. More gay-friendly nightlife can be found in Faubourg Marigny and Bywater, which are just downriver from the French Quarter. These neighborhoods are known for their European flair and well-preserved architecture, as well as a plethora of shopping and dining options.

If you’re visiting during the fall, be sure to attend Southern Decadence. Held over Labor Day weekend, the event is referred to as the Gay Mardi Gras and invites over 100,000 people to the streets of New Orleans to celebrate gay culture. Alternatively, if you visit during the summer months, New Orleans Gay Pride occurs in June and brings together food, music, dancing, and parades to revel in the South’s LGBT scene.
