I never got the access code for the main building from the hotel. I tried calling the hotel directly through multiple methods and the phone didn’t ring/they didn’t answer. Expedia couldn’t reach them for over two hours, time I spent standing outside with no way to check in since there’s no front desk. Ended up following someone inside and found my key. Then Expedia said they got a hold of the hotel and the hotel doesn’t have my reservation, which obviously wasn’t true since I found my key with my name on my envelope. Expedia profusely apologized and the hotel then texted me from the same number that would not answer the call. Hotel said Expedia only recently called them but Expedia had been calling for hours. Once finally checked in the hotel was fine. Maybe book directly with the hotel and not through Expedia, although I’m not sure why I never got the access code to the building. From the check in where you get personal attention from Ulrike and have all questions answered over a glass of sparking wine or tea, to the magnificent rooms, to the wonderful in house restaurant. The location in the old town could not be better. A few minutes walk to the cable car up to the fortress, to the many shops in the old town. Walking bridges are also not far away if you want to walk to the other side of town across the river. If you can book a room on the fourth floor at the top with access to your own roof top sitting area. This is one of the best small hotels I have ever stayed at. Ulrike organised us taxis when needed, and she also organised the ‘Sound of Music’ tour for us - which by the way was a lot of fun, even if you are not a super fan of the movie. Reception and front door are locked after 7pm and there were no hot drinks facilities in the rooms and just a very basic TV.
