"I understand monies might be limited to keep a landmark building up to our modern standards. But, lumpy creaky mattress, missing light bulbs, a TV/no channels programmed, a simple box of tissues all lacking even after a request placed.
But, all in all a roof over our heads, a good shower facility, a view of the water & Bressay Island, central location for exploring the shops and walking the wonderful town of Lerwick."

"We have stayed at the Kveldsro for a week plus on two occasions, and really enjoyed ourselves each time. The hotel is not a new building, but as a result is full of character. The rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms fairly recently updated. The dining room and many of the bedrooms have a wonderful view over the Lerwick harbour. One of the best aspects is that the hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from Commercial Street, and within easy walking distance of most of the many...

Not the fanciest hotel BUT great location and the room was large, clean, comfortable and priced right! Couldn’t ask for more. Parking easy. Dinner was great. Breakfast was wonderful - what a way to start the day exploring Shetland. Ate one night at Frankie’s fish seafood - it was great. Make sure to make reservation if you want to eat at restaurant otherwise it will be take a way. Staff at hotel were great. I would stay here again.

I can’t imagine a better place to stay in Lerwick than the Fort Charlotte Guest House. The place is a gem, a mere steps from the heart of Lerwick. The rooms are clean, quiet and cozy. The staff is hospitable and full of helpful ideas and advice.
Ryan’s email communication during and in advance of our stay was exceptional, both timely and informative.
The breakfast spread is varied and delicious. I especially enjoyed chatting and sharing experiences with the staff and different world...

We were on a 3-week tour of Highlands & Islands. Owners Andrea and Paul were stupendous hosts! So kind and helpful! Food, especially dinner, was first class! We learned much about the history and where to visit. Irving, the waiter, was charming. We strongly recommend.

This was a great place to stay. My sole complaint is only being offered instant coffee. There must be a way to do real coffee -- pods, tea/coffee bags?

The best area to stay in Vidlin is within the village itself, particularly near the waterfront and the B9003 road.
Vidlin is a small, quiet village on the east coast of Mainland Shetland, known for its harbor and as a ferry terminal for the outer islands of Fetlar and Yell. The village is quite compact, with most amenities and accommodations located close to the main road and the pier. It's a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding natural beauty.
Solo travelers and couples looking for a tranquil retreat will find Vidlin ideal. Its quiet setting allows for relaxation and easy access to outdoor activities like coastal walks and birdwatching.
When is the best time to go to Vidlin?
The best time to visit Vidlin is during the summer months, specifically from June to August, when the weather is mildest and daylight hours are longest.
During this period, temperatures are generally comfortable, ranging from 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F), and there's less chance of strong winds or heavy rainfall. The extended daylight, with almost 24 hours of light around the summer solstice, provides ample opportunity for exploring the outdoors, including coastal walks and boat trips. This time is ideal for couples who want to enjoy the scenic beauty without the harshness of winter weather.
The shoulder seasons of May and September also offer pleasant conditions with fewer crowds, though the weather can be a bit more unpredictable.
