The Liberty Theater opened in 1917 (originally named the American Theater) with a design based on traditional Dutch architecture, including creamy terra cotta tiles covering the facade. Inside, marble and tile filled the lobby, while each of the theater's 1000 seats were crafted of mahogany and Spanish leather. The theater itself was a technical marvel, with two projection machines, a $10,000 heating and ventilation system, and a $25,000 organ (the movies themselves were silent).

Today, the theater exists as an extension of the Macy's department store. Apparently the original seats remain, hidden beneath a false floor.
