“The location of the hotel is excellent with great walks along the river. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Some maintenance was needed to windows in our room and the corridor, with external painting needed, however otherwise our room was fine. All staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient - really good service. The restaurant menu was excellent. We only eat fish and vegetables, but there was a really good choice of options which we considered on the menu. The dinner was……

“The Hill Hotel was a great. Everything was immaculate . Location was great as well. Less than a 5 minute walk from train station and very close to town. The owners Lynne and Terry were fabulous host. Hopefully going back to Scotland in couple of years and will definitely stay here again.”

“This is a cracking flat within a short walk of Dumfries town centre. From the outside, the flats don’t look too inspiring, but it’s clearly been renovated recently and it’s been done really nicely. The two rooms are pretty much identical doubles, and the living room/kitchen is a good size. Nice views of the river from most rooms, and a lovely small balcony coming off the main living area. Would definitely come back if in the area.”

“The location is excellent, just a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The room wAs not modern but was very comfortable, spacious and functional. Breakfast was cooked to order with self service drinks, fruit and cereals available. Easy parking. Highly recommended.”

“A unique Scottish hotel that is in the process of being renovated. Food was good and staff friendly, though reception appeared to be unstaffed. My room was one of the older ones so the renovation will be a big benefit but overall the hotel was great value and much better than an anonymous generic chain hotel.”

“Staff helpful and friendly and room clean and nice bedding etc , unfortunately the mattress was very poor and the springs were uncomfortable all night . I discussed this in the morning and hopefully it will be addressed”

“Shame previous owners let the hotel go to disrepair as it was a wonderful place. 100% respect to the new owner who is doing a great, time consuming task (without the help of planning department) to bring this Hotel/Restaurant back to the great place it was.”
