Nestled in the Bankhead National Forest, Pine Torch was built in 1850. Made from poplar logs with oak shingles and a tin roof, it's the perfect example of a log building from that era. It served as both church and school for the area. Nondenominational services are held every Sunday still. Pine Torch is part of the Hallelujah Trail of North Alabama which is a collection of churches over 100 years in age, still residing in the original church site and still holding services today. What a great view back in time prior to electric services for light and heat. You can smell the "oldness" in this one room structure.

"Really nice renter and condo. However was harassed by the HMO Ranger lady that the boat and trailer wasn’t welcome. She was able to accommodate us by having her “boyfriend “ move his car ( I’m sure he had a designated spot) so I could park. The lack of parking wasn’t disclosed on VRBO. Nice , slightly dated place just beware of the snooty old landlady HMO Ranger if you happen to be bringing a boat to the lake, no where to park it without unhooking. "Great stay! Definitely would stay again. I wish they had the southwestern omelettes instead of scrambled eggs and the $3 parking at checkout seemed unnecessary. All in all though I recommend this hotel. "
