This self-contained one-bedroom garden apartment constructed in 2014 sits beneath a fully-restored 1914 Arts and Crafts bungalow in the heart of Portland's famed Alberta Arts District. It features a street-level private entrance (no stairs), all south-facing windows providing lots of natural light, 8' ceilings, a full kitchen, high-end finishes throughout, central air conditioning and hydronic radiant heating. Only partially below ground level, the unit is fully sound insulated providing restful quiet and privacy, comes equipped with a 4K projector and surround-sound home theatre system, fiber-optic Internet access with wi-fi, and a spa-inspired bathroom shower with thermostatic controls. Only two blocks away from Alberta Street and the popular Salt and Straw ice cream shop, food carts, restaurants, bars, microbreweries, and more.

Business bookended with vacation
My husband & I bookended a work trip with time to explore Portland & the surrounding area. This flat was the ideal spot to come home to each night. 10/10 recommend. Clean, quiet, cozy well-appointed. Everything in town was a 5-minute walk (Alberta St) or a 15 minute drive (Rose Gardens, Tusk Restaurant, Salt & Straw on the NW side). Everything out of town was a 90-minute drive (Mt. Hood, the coast, Mirror Lake). Plenty of pots and pans to cook with, excellent coffee for the morning, the bed was comfortable, the closet had ample storage for our clothes. I think the only thing I would suggest is 4 outlets next to the bed, so people can plug in their phones at night. Newer phones can't use the convenient USB ports that are provided in the outlets that are there. Hosts really have tried to think of just about everything! We would jump at the chance to stay here again. Thanks so much for letting stay this first time! :-)

Fabulous
When David built this basement apartment, he did not spare expense. The design and the quality of materials, fixtures and appliances is top notch. Not to mention the top of the line Sony projector, movie screen and surround sound. It feels like you are in a theater. Of course now we are spoiled at home with our puny big screen LOL. We will definitely stay there again.

Simply the best!
A beauutiful and fully equipped place, located in a great neighborhood. The hosts went well out of their way to meet my needs as a last minute guest. Every detail of decor was exceptional. Clean as could be, and very comfortable. Luxerious bedding and linens were the cherry on top.

Lovely Stay
Our hosts were tremendous the entire stay. They were very accommodating upon check in and out, had beverages in the fridge, and were super responsive throughout the stay. I doubt this place will be available all the time with the location, great customer service, and cleanliness of the space, but next time we travel back to Portland, we will certainly look to stay here again.

Sweet place in an awesome neighborhood
This is a beautiful little craftsman basement unit located in the Alberta arts district. It’s comfortable, spacious, and easily accessible. Parking on the street was not too difficult. The bed is very comfortable and the couch pulls out into a small bed also. The entertainment system was great With access to all the major streaming services. The refrigerator was well stocked, and I’ve never seen a rental kitchen as well outfitted as this one. Every appliance and utensil you could ask for was there. They had a nice selection of bottled and canned beverages, coffee, and tea, even microwave popcorn was available. Check in and check out instructions were clear and simple. we didn’t have to go crazy cleaning the place before we checked out. They have an excellent cleaning service. We were able to check in a little early even. David is an excellent host. He even tried to work with Vrbo about a billing issue I had with the company. David was very helpful in explaining the situation. I will definitely be considering this craftsman on my next trip to Portland. 10/10.

Great stay!
We live in the neighborhood but needed to be out of our house for several days due to an interior project. This comfortable apartment was a great stay for our purposes, and as a frequent VRBO renter during our domestic and international travels, we also highly recommend it for visitors. Appreciated the quality of craftsmanship (wood throughout, bathroom), full kitchen plus proximity to Alberta Street restaurants and take-out, amenities (cold sparkling waters, shower products), attention to environmentally sustainable practices, and excellent communication and help from David, our host. You, too, can have a great stay here!

We enjoyed our two-night stay in the guest quarters of this early 1900s house in northeast Portland. The rental is particularly attractive, with custom woodwork, a well-equipped kitchen with newer appliances, a spacious and extensively tiled bathroom, a comfortable bed, and tasteful decorations throughout. The very responsive host provided complimentary beverages. Highly recommended.

Great location close to Alberta. Perfect apartment - very clean & in great condition. Host was very easy to communicate with. Minimal noise from owner / house above. Although it’s technically in the basement, it doesn’t feel that way - lots of light & not gloomy at all. We were very warm and cozy, even on the coldest of Portland days.

Clean, Quiet, and Perfect!
We were in Portland to visit with friends and family for about a week. When I tell you that this place was our sanctuary, I'm not over exaggerating. Just a short walk to Alberta, the location makes it easy to pop in and out all day if needed. After a long day of visiting we could come back, drop onto the sofa and read or veg out to our contentment. The cleanliness was what first impressed us. Nothing in this space is sketchy, creepy, or even dusty! The owners live onsite, and are the quiet upstairs neighbors that most shared space people hope to have. The filtered water and kombucha provided in the fridge was the gift that kept on giving. The two MUST TRY things about this space are the luxurious shower set up and the projector movie/TV set up in the living room. WOW! Finding out that David and Jenny are vegans (as are we) shouldn't have come as a surprise. Kindness and Empathy for all was evident in everything provided in this lovely space. My wife and I have found our go-to spot to stay whenever we come to Portland moving forward.

Wonderful Stay
The attention to detail makes this a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. The apartment has the feel of the Craftsman home with some very nice modern conveniences. Rental was close to the venue for the wedding celebration we came for and a perfect location for some day trips.

Great stay!
Don't let the words "basement apartment" put you off from this place. If they would let me, I would live here full time. The apartment is comfortable, well appointed, comfortable and has great light, despite being in the basement. We had everything we needed, and the owner was great to work with. I travel to Portland often to visit my daughter, and I hope it's available for my next trip!!

Great location
Perfect place for a stay in PDX. Close to lots of places to eat and not too far from downtown. Bed is very comfortable, shower is fantastic, kitchen has everything you need!! Projector and surround was pretty cool too!! Neighborhood was very quiet. Would definitely stay here again!!

All rooms really well furnished, but….
The living space was very lovely, tasteful and well equipped. The bathroom was luxurious! The only “downer” was that the accommodation was in a basement. No windows with views. If you’ll be out and about during the day, and are only looking for a place to spend the night, this is perfect. But this closed in accommodation might not work for being their all day.
