Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

Known as the Greatest Stadium in the World, this arena hosts football games and commemorates those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in World War I.

Dating back to the 1920s, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is the famous home of the University of Southern California Trojans football team. This open-air sports arena seats almost 80,000 spectators. Purchase tickets and attend a game to be part of the raucous atmosphere created by the fans.

Check the schedule for music concerts in the arena. The site has previously hosted such famous acts as U2, Bruce Springsteen and The Who. Other events, including soccer and baseball games, also take place here occasionally. Choose snacks and drinks from the various food trucks in and around the arena.

Stroll through the majestic peristyle arches to see the Memorial Court of Honor. Here 62 plaques honor a collection of people who had an impact on the stadium’s past. Learn about the history of the stadium, which was inaugurated in 1923 and is a memorial to the U.S. Armed Forces in World War I.

Rent the facilities in the stadium for your own private function. Weddings, galas and anniversary parties often take place here. Note that the stadium was used for the filming of the 1978 movie Heaven Can Wait and was part of the television show 24.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is located in the heart of Exposition Park, a little southwest of Downtown Los Angeles. From the city center, drive southwest for 4 miles (6 kilometers) or ride a bus to a nearby stop to get here in about 30 minutes.

Travel through the district to see nearby sights, such as the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the California African American Museum and the USC Fisher Museum of Art.
