If you’re in Carmel between May through July, don’t miss the opportunity to catch a show at the Forest Theater Guild. Since its inception, the guild has featured a classic theater repertoire, including many of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. The earliest shows were partially lit by bonfires, a tradition which continues to this day. In recent years, the guild has incorporated musicals and more contemporary works into its program. The Forest Theater Guild is community theater at its very best and is testimony to Carmel’s civic pride and creativity.
Join local residents and visitors who flock to attend each year’s new production. Bring a blanket, some food and a bottle of wine and picnic beneath the stars. A snack bar serves drinks, hot coco and delicious homemade soups. The theater is located in forest between the highway and the Pacific Ocean, so it gets very dark at sundown. The theater is a half hour walk from downtown Carmel. If driving, arrive an hour before show time as the parking lot is small. Overflow parking is available along the streets leading to the theater, but these are very windy and narrow.
