We parked at the base of the tombolo (an island connected to the mainland by a narrow piece of land) and joined one of two groups led by docents, up to the top. There were conservationists out on the hillside removing non-native plants to make a Swifts butterfly habitat. We heard stories about the early lighthouse keepers and their families, as well as stories about the downed USS Macon, and the haunted Keeper's house.
