Base yourself in this popular holiday town to explore Southern Bali, surf, shop, socialize and enjoy the relaxed beach atmosphere.

Legian is a coastal village, a popular destination in Southern Bali. Base yourself in Legian if you want to be near the the facilities of Kuta but want to avoid real big crowds and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. Shopping, nightlife and watersports are Legian’s main attractions and the range of dining and accommodation options make it a great base to explore the rest of Southern Bali.

Unwind on Legian Beach and play beach volleyball, go sailing, scuba diving or fishing. Surf classes are available for for all levels, so learn how to carve the waves or perfect your technique.

Stroll through Legian’s labyrinth of alleyways and pick up a fresh fruit juice and relax in a café. For dinner, choose from a selection of international restaurants or pick up noodles or a curry from a warung” (Balinese food stall).

For a day of shopping, walk down Jalan Legian. You will find international brands alongside local boutiques that sell clothing, accessories, shoes, sarongs, knickknacks and surf gear, as well as arts and crafts such as marionettes and Balinese masks. Treat yourself to a spa treatment or deep-muscle massage, these are offered everywhere. In the evening, dine in a restaurant and watch traditional Balinese dancing or hear a gamelan orchestra play.

Legian has plenty of accommodation options. Along the beach you will find secluded bungalows, boutique hotels and resorts that cater for families. On the main roads are five-star hotels, luxury resorts and backpackers lodges. If you wander down the backstreets you will find cozy family-owned guesthouses.

Legian is wedged in between Seminyak and Kuta, on South Bali’s west coast. The center of Legian is a 10-minute drive from the airport and most hotels offer free airport transfers. In peak season, congested traffic in Kuta and Legian can make getting around difficult so walking or hiring a bicycle or motorbike is recommended. Many bikes have surfboard racks, so you can ride to the beach.

I do not recommend getting the All Inclusive Package at Legian Beach Hotel. It was the biggest waste of money. We could only order certain drinks & only a very limited menu available. Bintangs were not even included. It costs us over $800 extra for the 2 nights and we couldn’t even order a steak ...

Getting around Legian

It’s not recommended that you rent a car in Legian unless you’re experienced and confident in driving on Balinese roads, which are often busy, frantic and stressful. Renting a bicycle is a popular way to get around, and a good way to soak up the more peaceful atmosphere away from the main strip. Chances are, though, that you’ll be able to walk between your hotel, the beach, and Legian’s restaurants and bars. Best time to visit

Legian’s weather goes through distinct dry and wet seasons, which have an influence on crowds and hotel prices. Between October and April it’s the rainy season, which means you’ll encounter thunderstorms most days; however, these are normally over quickly, and you’ll have more of the beach to yourself during this time. June to August sees peak numbers of visitors, higher room rates and drier weather.
