Beckhole station site/remains. View SW, to the end of the line, which had until 1865 been the upper end of a rope-worked incline section of the Grosmont - Pickering section of the 1836 Whitby & Pickering Railway - horse-worked. In 1865 the NER built a deviation from Grosmont to replace the incline, but the stub to Beckhole was retained, for goods working, also a passenger service in summer 1908-1914. The Monks Cross different one's can be found all over the Yorkshire Moors as a landmark for the monks walking to and from Whitby on the east coast. Sitting on top of a hill with views all round including a view of Whitby in the far distance.

Great location. Sea view rooms overlook the town and harbour with wonderful views to the Abbey. The bar is lively and well run with plenty of staff. The breakfast is buffet style with lots of options and the restaurant room has nice decor.
