I stayed at the Freehand Hand while I visited Chicago for the first time. I absolutely enjoyed the experience and found my lodgings accommodations top notch. The bed was clean and inviting and the company in the room was a pleasure 🙂 Thanks again. The service people are very nice, helpful, sweet and very knowledgeable. I highly highly recommend the Freehand Hand for anyone coming to Chicago.

I have never been in a hostel like place, so it took me time to adjust to the experience. The staff was very helpful with instructions about parking, and the area is near many amenities downtown. It is unusual to not have a TV and to be in a small room, but the area is maintained well and not dirty.

Not so much that I didn't like something about the place but kinda wish they were more up front about it being a hostel type of stay. When I arrived I was told that I was going to be with other people and not my own room. That's all.

Great location - near great restaurants, shops, tourist attractions. But it doesn’t function well as a hostel. No kitchen, no public space to work that’s quiet and where you can eat your own food or takeout. Lightning in public space where you have to pay for food and drinks is poorly lit with blaring overhead music. Not conducive for work or a virtual meeting. Sharing a dorm room with people who slept in during the day and snored loud left me with zero options for a workspace. I checked out early because of these reasons. I expected the same amenities that are at the L.A. location. Don’t assume all Freehands are the same.☹️

Was a great place to stay and had a fun time! Although housekeeping cleaned my bed. Which wouldn’t be a problem but I wasn’t due to checkout for another day and the other girl who was still there, her bed was untouched. Which again wouldn’t be a problem if the drinks and chargers that WAS in my bed area didn’t go missing. I get that it could’ve been someone in the room but why would they steal opened drinks?? I went down to the front desk to talk about it and was told “Housekeeping saw nothing.” Like really? Why even make my bed and touch my stuff in the first place? Was then told “Nothing they can do about it. If it was dropped on the linen then it would be thrown out.” Was offered the worst “Can’t do anything. Sorry.” I had to go out and buy brand new chargers and all I got was a sorry?? Like I’m sorry this wouldn’t have happened if housekeeping didn’t touch my bed when I was still checked in. I would love to recommend this place just make sure every single thing you own is locked up. Inconvenient to do so but better safe than sorry.
