How can I get cheap hotels in Hanalei?

Best tips to find a cheap hotel in Hanalei

  1. If you're looking to travel to Hanalei on a budget, you'll be happy to know that you can find hotels for as low as $142. Of course, that price is affected by amenities, star rating, and even the time of year you visit. At most, hotel prices can be as high as $1,197. Staying a short amount of time in Hanalei is an effective way to reduce hotel costs.
  2. When you cut your vacation down to just a few days, you don't have to worry as much about hotel prices since you don't have that many nights to stay. For budget hotels in Hanalei, 3 to 4 days should be all the nights you need. That's generally enough to enjoy the city's top attractions, though there's certainly enough to do to warrant a week-long trip.
  3. When booking cheap hotel rooms in Hanalei, it's typically best to book about 3 weeks in advance. Book further in advance than that and you could be paying too much for your room, as hotels will often overestimate future demand. However, if you wait too long, you might find that the hotel has been completely booked.
  4. When you utilize search filters on Expedia, you'll be able to narrow down your results in a flash. These search filters cover a wide variety of factors you may be interested in when it comes to finding a cheap hotel in Hanalei, including amenities such as Free Breakfast, 2-star rating, or proximity to local attractions. You can even set filters for price limits to ensure that all the displayed results are within your budget.

The Royal Sonesta Kaua'i Resort Lihue

10/10 Excellent
"We’ve traveled to the Royal Sonesta in Kauai a couple years back and we fell in love, not only with the island but with the resort, the staff, the food, everything. The staff is so kind and never fail to impress. Our room was clean and they were consistent with the upkeep which I’m usually very particular about. Everything is a bit pricy but that was to be expected in Hawaii. The shops and restaurants are all within walking distance, we rented a car and although we were on the farther end of the resort we always managed to get a spot right by our tower. We appreciate the hospitality and the warm welcome, we will always come back<3"

Aston Islander on the Beach

"The hotel has beautifully landscaped gardens and is right on the beach. The pool and bar were very nice but they didn’t have music at the Pool / bar. Our room was in decent condition clean comfortable bed, but the patio furniture was kind of dated. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance and you can take morning walks along the beach on the walkway there. It was very relaxing and not crowded like some of the big resorts. I highly recommend it."

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

10/10 Excellent
"The Grand Hyatt Kauai is an excellent pick for this island. It is a beautiful hotel right by the beach and has several great pools, a lazy river, a waterslide and a saltwater lagoon. The hotel staff was very friendly. The spa was beautiful as well. The hotel may get crowded when the schools are on holidays because the hotel is kid-friendly but the week we were there, it was not too crowded nor too isolated. Just right. My favorite part of the hotel was the Seaview Terrace which is a café/restaurant with a beautiful ocean view and both indoor and outdoor seating. They had live music and a singer almost every night during dinner time. It was very enjoyable and a great experience."

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort

Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort

8/10 Good
"The location is great. Right by the beach, centrally located to all the attractions. Pool and pool area are great too. The rest in my opinion falls short of the 4 star, $500+ per night (with all the taxes and fees) hotel. I would give it 3.75 stars but there is no such option. Some areas are dated. You can tell the hotel tries to maintain them by painting stuff over but it shows. For me the worst were supply and return grills for the A/C unit. Very dirty. We actually had been turning the A/C off as much as we could so we would not breathe in the dust!! Thankfully the wonderful ocean breeze helped :) Breakfast buffet is decent but it falls short of the Marriott's standards. Some more daily variety would be nice."

How much does a budget hotel in Hanalei cost?
Budget hotel prices in Hanalei vary, but you can find a great deal from $142 on Expedia. To find the cheapest budget hotels, be flexible with your dates—off-peak and mid-week stays are typically cheaper. Which area of Hanalei is best to stay in for cheap hotels?
For budget-conscious solo travellers seeking affordable accommodation in Hanalei, finding "cheap hotels" in the traditional sense can be challenging, as the area is primarily known for its upscale resorts and vacation rentals. However, options like Hanalei Bay Resort and Club Wyndham Bali Hai Villas often feature studio or one-bedroom rooms that can be more economical than larger rentals, especially if booked during the off-season or well in advance. These resorts, located just outside the main Hanalei town, offer amenities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, and sometimes even fitness centres with high-end equipment, adding value to your stay. Solo travellers can enjoy the quiet surroundings and often stunning views of the bay or mountains. While not in the immediate heart of Hanalei, these locations are a short drive from the town's shops, restaurants, and the iconic Hanalei Pier.Additionally, exploring guesthouses or smaller, locally-run lodging establishments slightly further inland or in neighbouring communities like Princeville might yield more budget-friendly rates.
When is the most affordable time to visit Hanalei?
The most affordable time to visit Hanalei is typically during the shoulder seasons, specifically from April to May and September to November, outside of major holidays. During these months, you'll find lower prices for accommodations and flights compared to the peak winter and summer seasons. For solo travellers, this period offers a more tranquil experience with fewer crowds, making it easier to enjoy the natural beauty and local charm without the peak season rush. You might even find better deals on activities like surf lessons or kayak rentals. While Hanalei is generally a premium destination, these shoulder months provide the best opportunity to experience its stunning beaches and lush landscapes at a more manageable cost.
What free activities should we do in Hanalei?
Hanalei offers a variety of wonderful free activities, primarily centreed around its stunning natural beauty and accessible outdoor spaces. Many of these activities are ideal for couples seeking to enjoy the island's charm without spending a fortune.Couples can spend their days relaxing on the beautiful Hanalei Bay, famous for its crescent shape and dramatic mountain backdrop. Enjoy swimming, sunbathing, or simply walking along the shore, taking in the panoramic views. For a more active experience, stroll along the Hanalei Pier, a historic landmark offering fantastic photo opportunities, especially at sunset.Exploring the town itself is also free; wander through the quaint streets, browse the art galleries (many offer free admission), and soak in the laid-back Hawaiian atmosphere. You can also drive a short distance to discover several scenic viewpoints along the coast, such as the lookout over Hanalei Valley, which provides breathtaking vistas of the taro fields and lush landscapes.
Is it cheaper to book a Hanalei hotel and flight package?
Booking a hotel and flight package on Expedia can be cheaper than booking flights and hotels separately. Bundling can lead to significant savings, especially for international travel or when booking well in advance. However, savings vary depending on factors like destination, travel dates, and availability, so it's wise to compare options. With access to over 300,000 hotels worldwide, Expedia makes it easy to build the perfect vacation package.
Can I cancel my budget hotel reservation on Expedia?
Many Expedia hotel reservations are refundable, provided that you cancel before the hotel's cancellation deadline. This is often within 24-48 hours of your scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy.
