“Downstairs in the pub and restaurant i cannot fault it, the place is well maintained and clean. The bar is well stocked however it was very busy with only one staff working. Food was excellent and a great variety of choice. Breakfast was limited but the full English was brilliant. Upstairs really needs a refurbishment, the rooms are dated and tired, having said that it was clean and water/ coffee refreshed each morning.”

“A great location to stop after a long drive. Very convenient. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was spotless with lovely locally sourced products. Whilst we didn't eat dinner here it was busy and there us a children's play area too. We ate at the Hare & Hounds; a very pleasant 20 minute walk away. There is plenty of car parking spaces at the Gilpin. The breakfast is very basic. We would definitely stay again but not opt for the breakfast.”

"This has been one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Firstly, the limited parking availability was not mentioned at the time of booking, which caused immediate inconvenience upon arrival. And I paid £10 to park at public parking area. More importantly, there was no hot water available in the room. We checked in at approximately 4:00 pm and discovered the issue when attempting to shower. Upon contacting reception, we were informed that the hot water tank had run out and that we would need to wait. We left for dinner and returned around 8:30 pm, expecting the issue to be resolved. However, when my son attempted to shower, the water turned freezing cold after only five minutes. When I raised this again with reception, I was told that nothing could be done and that no alternative rooms were available. Instead, we were given a key card to Room 38 and asked to use that room solely for showering, which I found to be an unreasonable and unacceptable solution. I was particularly disappointed by the lack of concern and empathy shown by the staff. Their response suggested that such issues are not uncommon, which is extremely worrying. This situation has significantly impacted our family holiday, especially as my son felt unwell after being exposed to freezing water. I am also very concerned about hygiene standards. The handling and disposal of used towels and bedding appeared improper, which raises serious concerns about cleanliness and guest safety. "
