"I always enjoy staying at the Grand Hyatt. Expensive, YES, but “it’s New York.” The lady at the restaurant gave great suggestions for breakfast, as did the doorman for a seafood lunch. The location is outstanding as well, for visiting family in Long Island and Connecticut. Expensive, YES, but i will be back."

"Good location, just a short walk (about 5mins) from Jamaica Airtrain, LIRR or the subway. Nice warm breakfast served. Rooms are modern and clean. Enjoyed the free flow coffee, tea and water provided at the reception."

"Wonderful stay for a weekend trip to NYC. Comfortable, clean and friendly hotel very close to Grand Central and 4-5-6 subways. Easy walk to Broadway theaters and most anywhere in midtown. Great home base, very comfortable beds and quiet at night!"

"We stayed here for 4 nights in April while attending a wedding in Brooklyn. On arrival, the guy who checked us in was friendly, informative and managed to get us into our room early, which was appreciated after a long travel day. Our room was sufficient for our needs, although a little small. There was very little wardrobe space which meant most of our clothes stayed in our suitcases. The bathroom was clean and modern - but you can see through the glass both in and out, which was fine for us as a married couple, but if you’re staying with someone you aren’t THAT comfortable with…not so much! The safe also didn’t work - kept saying an error message when we tried to program it to lock. On the first night, we had an issue where a member of staff spoke rudely to us because we used the elevator supposedly reserved for the rooftop bar (we had no way of knowing this). We reported it to management via the feedback request on Hotels.com, but it was never followed up. The second morning after housekeeping had been, the sheers in our room stopped functioning, meaning we had to climb onto the bed to move them manually when we wanted them open or closed. When we checked out, we discovered that Public charges a $45 per night ‘resort fee’ to cover ‘access to 24/7 gym, rooftop bar, lobby spaces’ etc. We used the gym once, and didn’t use any other amenities, so felt like it was a sneaky charge. Perhaps it should be charged on a guest-by-guest basis on individual need…."

"The Freehand is a bare bones hotel with no amenities. Nice bars and cafe, however, which were fun. The rooms are very basic and didn’t have a space for a toiletries bag, just a small ledge (mine fell into the toilet and ruined all my makeup and medications). No coffee machine or mini bar but there was a small fridge. No shelves or drawers for clothes. I stayed here because it was around the corner from the conference I was working, and it’s pretty cheap compared to other nyc hotels. Also the front desk staff were super rude and gruff. The bartenders were nice."

"This hotel is the worst in the universe. The rooms are incredibly ugly and poorly maintained; they haven't fixed anything in 25 years. It was a huge disappointment. I ended up with some incredibly loud women next to mine who were partying all night. When I told the hotel to ask them to keep their voices down at midnight, they just told me to be patient because it was someone's birthday. I went to this hotel for 17 years of my life and then stopped going for 10. And it's still the same as it was 27 years ago, everything the same: curtains, beds, headboards, paint, old and old. Disappointing "
