We booked at Barcelo but when we arrived the Shuttle driver told us we had been moved to the Occidental Resort in Nuevo Puerto Vallarta district, due to construction at Barcelo. I had seen a similar situation reviewed in March but was still irritated we had not received notification prior to our arrival. The Occidental had great food but it was rare that the three onsite restaurants were open at the same time. One night, only one restaurant was open and was booked. All three required reservations and were only open for dinner. The buffet had good food, but we were really disappointed by the restaurant availability. The rooms were spotty...out of three rooms, one was freezing and the AC was broken, a new room was requested and the remote was missing in that room. The other room was too hot, again the AC was broken but with windows open at night and fan going it was okay. The third room was suppose to be a suite, with parent bedroom and pullout couch for child. We initially received a double queen due to the change from Barcelo. We requested a new room and received a Jr. Suite but no pullout bed...the child had to sleep on the couch. So accommodations were sketchy. I would say, that for all the issues, we did receive good service and corrections were made quickly. The staff is very friendly, the beach is beautiful and the pool area is great! Drinks and fun were had by all and be sure to check out the Iguana's near the pool bar. Covid testing is done onsite.
