Nice on the surface, problems underneath

Posted Jun 19, 2017
Pros: Location, Room, View, Showerhead, Waitstaff, Drinks
Cons: Maintenance, quieter wedding receptions, better tasting food, cleanliness, keep vendors away
Location: Beautiful beach, can reserve excursions right at the hotel.
The good: (1). The location is absolutely fabulous, with the beach being small, but not crowded. (2). Our room was very large, with a beautiful ocean view. The room was clean, and we loved the in-ceiling rainfall shower head. (3). The waitstaff is friendly and helpful. Some speak english better than others, but if you attempt a little spanish, you'll be fine. (4). The drinks are good, and plentiful. The bad: (1). They like to host wedding receptions. Prepare for a big section of the pool-deck to be off limits some nights, with music blaring from loudspeakers until 11pm. (2). The food is pretty bland, and all starts to taste the same after a few days. (3). Most of the public restrooms downstairs have faucets, toilets, and/or soap dispensers that don't work. (4). The in-room air conditioner(s) seemed like it had trouble keeping up. It was 85 most days, and with both air conditioners as cold as they'd go, we were still hot at night. (5). The elevators are small and heaven forbid you try and take them when they're busy, you may end up waiting a while. (6). The hotel makes no effort to keep beach vendors away. You will be bothered while on the beach, or even on the pool deck close to the beach. They'll even try and hock their goods if you are sitting next to the window in the buffet. (7). In the buffet, they keep the "clean" plates under the food, which means the plates on top are always dirty.

STAY ELSEWHERE

Posted Jun 6, 2017
Pros: Pools
Cons: Check in, Exchange rate policy, resort credit scam
We were traveling with all my family as a reunion 5 rooms 11 adults and 2 babies check inn horrible took hours and the person actually said we should have done our reservation directly at Barcelo not expedia if we wanted better service. FIRST of all the $500 resort credit is a scam, so if you are inclined to choose this hotel because of the promotion you will be disappointed (see picture attached no credit only % discount on services ) SECOND if you booked trough Expedia they treat you like second class (see picture of rules for people that did not book directly at Barcelo) for 5 nights you are only allowed to eat dinner at the restaurant 2 times the rest buffet. Anyways restaurants are close most of the time or fully booked even if you try to make reservations early in the morning so expect to eat mostly buffet food or snack bar. THIRDLY price quoted in dollars so some wanted to pay cash the would turn it to pesos at a rate of $18.66 pesos per dólar then turned back to US dollar at $16 rate increasing the quoted price up to $200 US dollar so we decided to use credit card instead due to this but at checkout turns out they gave us the wrong exchange rate and we stilled owed money !!!! FOURTH the buffet food mainly what we where allowed to eat is bla, the waiters are great thought. FITH FITH The beach is crowed with small boats coming in and out making it dangerous to swim.

Top quality four-star hotel on the beach!

Posted Jun 3, 2017
Pros: Service, room quality, food quality, proximity to beach, tours offered, shops.
Cons: TV channels offered, Internet connectivity, evening entertainment (acoustics in auditorium).
Location: Take a bus just across street from entrance to hotel: 8 pesos, takes 20-30 minutes - or taxi for 175 pesos. Lots to do in the city and immed area!
This all-inclusive hotel is located 50 feet from the beach at Mismaloya, a small village 7 mi. south of central Puerto Vallarta. The service is excellent (including check-in and check-out staff, concierge, bellboys, waitstaff in restaurants), the food is better than average and safe to eat, and even the small shops in the hotel have a good selection of items at very reasonable prices. Activities for children were above average (and so, I think, that's why the hotel had a lot of families with little ones up to age 10), but evening entertainment for the adults was pretty poor - not due to lack of talent or effort on the part of the performers, but due to the poor acoustic system in the auditorium. The background instruments & drums drowned out the voices of the singers, and there was also a lot of screeching of microphones. Rooms are of high quality, as are amenities: clean and comfortable with excellent lighting and a great balcony overlooking the sea, excellent air conditioning, great shampoos and soaps, fluffy and generous sized towels, speedy and consistent room service. Poor selection of general TV channels, only 2 sports channels, good HBO selection - no CNN in English, however. Also, due to high usage probably, the Internet connectivity was very spotty. Overall, though, this hotel is a great value, and I plan to return again next year.

Great getaway for couples and families

Posted May 31, 2017
Pros: The feeling that I was pleasantly secluded, yet close to things to do and see. And a not too long a bus ride to town.
Cons: I felt the food in the buffet was a little bland and could've been a bit more varied, but still very good.
Location: The location was wonderful. Stayed only four nights and just never felt the need to leave the property.
Wonderful experience! Upgraded to the V.I.P. club. From the personal check in to my spacious suite along with a welcome gift to check out, I was totally satisfied with everything. I liked all the services provided by a larger all-inclusive resort, while still getting the vibe of real Mexico in and around the property. All the specialty restaurants were wonderful with excellent service, as was with all the staff in the hotel.

Very Pleasant

Posted May 29, 2017
I loved my stay at the resort. I had a couple of unpleasant experiences, like my credit card being declined because it didn't have the chip. Also my bed linen was dirty. The hotel staff immediately addressed both issues and worked to ensure I was satisfied. The staff was the best! Downsides, it was so far from the airport, you have to pay for internet and the $500 credit is bogus. You do not get a credit, it's discounts, very limited. I was not happy about that, especially after an Expedia rep called the hotel at my request to enquire about the credit. She was told I would get a voucher.

Disappointed

Posted May 28, 2017
We stayed here because we had a friend who had been a few times. Facility was great. However, the customer service was horrible. We were polite and greeted workers throughout resort and never greeted back. They not only looked miserable working there but their actions verified. Nobody even bothered to offer us drinks on beach. When we asked for anything, it was as if we were bothering them. As far as the buffet, they brought drinks when meal was practically finished. However, we did make friends with 2 of the bartenders, towel pick up girl, lifeguard and gardener, which made us look forward to a new day. Unfortunately, we won't be staying here ever again no matter how cheap.

Right on the beach. Not close to town.

Posted May 16, 2017
Pros: Pools, dinner restaurants, premium lobby, beautiful hotel, nice landscape.
Cons: The noise level from the bar every night, the food at the Fuente buffet, the beach could use chairs and umbrellas to be more inviting.
Location: It's 7.25 miles from town. You will need a taxi or car.
Very nice hotel. Nice amenities. Good dinner restaurants. The buffet "La Fuente" is just 'ok'. The service was good though. While the hotel is right on the beach, the pool was more inviting. It is very nice and big. 3 separate pools very close together. We had access to the Premium Lobby which had canapes, self serve bar, coffee, and fruit. Also had an internet lounge and printer. Two things that were bothersome: 1- The hotel, while beautiful, was 7.25 miles away from town. We had to take a taxi each time and one way is around $15 U.S. dollars. It's a slow, winding road with an abundance of speed bumps. 2- our room was on the 9th floor, facing the pool/ocean and the music was non-stop from the Bar next to the buffet restaurant. This was loud and did not stop until midnight every night. Our glass patio doors did nothing to buffer the sound. So if you're an early to bed kind of person, bring ear plugs. We would stay here again, it was nice enough. But next time we will choose to stay in the Romantic Zone for more access to stores and restaurants.
