"Barcelo Maya is a huge resort and I think it would be great for family. The beach is very nice. You can see lots of fish from the beach by the Hotel Palace, and also enjoy very sandy/smooth beach by hotel Beach.
I visited five specialty restaurants for staying for five nights. I enjoyed all of them, but Caribeno - seafood restaurant was the best. Brasserie - the French restaurant was slow to bring out food and to be seated, but their food was excellent as well. If you visit Rodizio, Brazilian stakehouse, choose the skewer option. They will bring out like 7 different meat for you. La Fuente Spenish restaurant and Marenostrum, seafood restaurant was good as well, but I liked the three from Palace more. I was there during the week, and it seemed that they didn't open Kyoto or Tokyo.
Room was kept clean and mini bars stocked every day. We had two different rooms, and one room with 4 people was humid, even with A/C and the ceiling fan on. (not hot; it was cool but humid - the floor was a little slippery time to time.)
Almost all the staff you see were very nice and courteous. We all enjoyed the stay very much, and will probably come back."
