"This is by far the best hotel in Cartagena, Bocagrande area. It’s secured and well maintained. Great buffet breakfast. If I had any complaints, is that the elevators were a little slow but it was due to high occupancy, but not really an issue. Highly recommend. "

"Overall experience was good, hence the 5 stars. Though the outdoor pool needs better maintenance, there were times when it was dirty. And some more vegetarian options in the breakfast buffet. Thanks. "

"Just returned from an absolutely amazing stay in **Sofitel Barú Calablanca Beach Resort** in **Barú**, and I can’t recommend it enough. 🌴 If you’re looking for a place to truly disconnect, this is it. The atmosphere was incredibly tranquil—perfect for sitting quietly, relaxing, and soaking in the beauty of the island. The food was honestly **10 out of 5**. Every meal felt like a highlight of the trip. 🍽️ The staff were just as impressive—so attentive, warm, and genuinely personable. They made the entire stay feel special. Jesus, Daniel and Victor made my stay unforgettable! Jorge's cooking, the Chef at Humo, was visionary, precise, and deeply flavorful!! I would absolutely return without hesitation. The **only suggestion** I’d make is for the hotel to include the boat transfer from **Cartagena** to the island as part of the stay. Offering that ride complimentary would make the experience even smoother and more seamless. All in all, an unforgettable escape. ✨ "

"It’s nothing like it looks and it boring no activities no exclusive nothing room small bugs everywhere we have to pay every time you take a ride back to the city on the boat just totally aren’t there. I didn’t stay 24 hours there I was gone in 12 in the city."

"We are accustomed to staying at luxury properties, which is precisely why we chose Makani Luxury. Unfortunately, the experience we encountered was far from what one would expect from a property carrying the “Luxury” designation. From the very beginning, the experience lacked the transparency and level of service expected at this price point. Upon arrival, we were taken to a beach area where guests wait for transportation to the hotel. There was no dock or proper boarding area. Instead, we were asked to wait directly on the sand under the sun for more than 30 minutes. There was no shade, no umbrellas, no water offered, and no seating available. Guests were left standing on hot sand in direct sunlight with no basic hospitality while waiting to be transported. When the transportation arrived, it was not a speedboat as one would reasonably expect from a luxury property, but rather a small local boat (yola). We were required to remove our shoes, walk through the water, and board the boat under conditions that were never disclosed during the booking process. After arriving at the island, we had still not had water or food for quite some time. We politely asked if we could sit at the restaurant and have lunch while waiting for our room to be ready. However, we were told that we could not dine until completing the property tour and were asked to wait on a sofa instead. Later that evening we also discovered that the hotel does not provide food service after 10:00 PM, "

"It was clean. It is like a tiki hut. No wifi, no tv. Updated bathroom. They had a nice private plunge pool. They came and took dinner order. It took awhile to get dinner, but they are walking up mountain. It is not for anyone who can't do a lot of stairs. I would have liked a blanket on the bed and hot water. Overall, I recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy nature and the person they are with. "
