The best area to stay in St. Martin is Hugh Town, which is the main settlement and administrative center of the Isles of Scilly.

Hugh Town is located on a narrow sandbar connecting the Garrison and the eastern part of St. Mary's island. It's the most developed area, featuring the main harbor, several shops, restaurants, and essential services like banks and the post office. The town is laid out with a main street, Hugh Street, running through its center, and it's quite walkable, offering easy access to both Porth Cressa Beach and Town Beach.

Couples looking for a convenient and relaxing stay will find Hugh Town ideal. The proximity to the ferry terminal means easy access to inter-island boat trips, great for exploring the other islands. Evenings can be spent enjoying meals at local eateries or taking a stroll along the waterfront.

Families will also appreciate Hugh Town's amenities. The town's beaches are easily kid-friendly, and the availability of shops for groceries and essentials makes planning meals and activities straightforward.

The best time to visit St Martin is during the dry season, from December to May, when the weather is consistently pleasant with low humidity and minimal rainfall.

This period offers ideal conditions for enjoying all the island has to offer, from beach activities to outdoor excursions. Travelers looking for a relaxing beach vacation will find the calm, sunny days great for lounging by the ocean or exploring the island's many coves.

Couples seeking a romantic getaway will appreciate the comfortable evenings for dining outdoors and the clear skies for stargazing. The gentle breezes during these months also make it a comfortable time for walking around towns like Marigot or Grand Case without the intense heat and humidity of the summer.

While the dry season is popular, those looking to avoid larger crowds and potentially find better value might consider the shoulder months of late May or early December.
