I enjoyed my stay at the Mark Spencer Hotel. The location is perfect, right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by great restaurants, coffee shops with amazing pastries, and lots to do (Powell’s is super close). The city was especially beautiful with all the Christmas lights, and the hotel definitely added to the whole Portland experience. Also, the free coffee for guests was a HUGE bonus for me - great taste. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the cleaninglessness, but the location + coffee got me.

The room was very clean, except around essentially the baseboards along the window. I was in my socks, and I ended up with lots of fuzzies on my socks. Additionally, the fan motor squeaked like there was a squirrel in it, and it was very disrupting to my sleep hence I got up and left at 3:30 AM

The staff at Hotel Lucia are fantastic! The rooms are clean and even though I was on a major street, the room was also quiet (this can be a problem at historic hotels, but not this one!). The location in downtown PDX is also great — you’re near to all the greats like Powells City of Books, Pioneer Square, and if you don’t mind a short walk (short for me, at least), Washington Park and the Rose Garden. Public transportation is also a snap. A few downsides: there’s no in-hotel restaurant. So, if you get in later like I did, you won’t have a place to grab dinner and drinks. Same goes for breakfast (though the 5a coffee service was appreciated and there’s LOADS of nearby restaurants to get breakfast — I recommend St. Honore Bakery if you like the glutinous!). I’d also like a bit higher end toiletries as well given the price of the room.

Very comfortable, family-owned place. Clean, convenient, and accommodating.
