Packed with cultural, natural and nightlife attractions, Zona Sul (South Zone) is Rio’s bustling tourism center. This lively district boasts a privileged location between the jungle-draped mountains of Tijuca National Park and perfect-blue Atlantic waters. Amid this spectacular setting you’ll find world-famous neighborhoods where Cariocas move with a flamboyant swagger.

Let Copacabana lure you with its gorgeous bay, art deco buildings and nightlife. Swim and surf at Copacabana Beach, stroll Copacabana Boulevard and visit Copacabana Fort. Ipanema and Leblon delight with their boteco beachfront bars, fashion outlets and independent galleries.

Overlooking Leblon, the Vidigal favela clings to the slopes of Dois Irmão Hill and welcomes tourists with its street art scene. Surf rolling waves, go hang gliding and climb to the summit of Pedra da Gávea in Sao Conrado.

Follow a trail from Leme Beach to the scenic lookout at hilltop Duke of Caixas Fort. Nearby Vermelha Beach is the starting point for the Claudio Coutinho Trail, which cuts through a monkey-inhabited forest to Urca Hill. Continue on foot or ride a cable car to Sugar Loaf Mountain. Enjoy relaxation and recreation at Flamengo Park and peruse modern Brazilian art at the Museum of Modern Art.

Away from the coast, Catete features gracious colonial landmarks. Find artsy cafés and bars in Santa Teresa and immerse yourself in Brazilian music at the bars of Lapa. Porto Maravilha is a revitalized waterfront district home to the Museum of Tomorrow and concert venues. Soccer fans should book tickets for a game at the Maracana Stadium.

Ride the tram to Corcovado mountain, where the iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue and unprecedented views await. Return to the city on foot via the wooded pathways of Parque Lage. Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden invites you to admire exotic plant species and spot wildlife.

An extensive network of buses, light rail and the metro make it easy to travel around Zona Sul. Come with an appetite for fun and adventure and be beguiled by Rio’s wonders.
