"The good: great beds and pillows and layout of the rooms. Comfy. The bad: Very noisy air conditioner and outside traffic. The worst parking entrance and parking lot ever! Wow, unbelievable hard to find at night. High step to get into the room, not recommended for any elderly person. Breakfast was all carbs, no eggs, bacon or sausages. We ended up going to a few local breakfast places which got pricey. Ended being more than $200 a night somehow, so recommend looking elsewhere and book directly. "

"The Hawthorne never dissapoints! Whenever im in Salem, this is my first choice. The rooms are always clean, comfortable and charming. The food options are incredible and worth the money spent. I have never come across a staff member anywhere in the hotel that isnt polite and or helpful or courteous. Well worth the money and experience. "

"Context: I traveled solo, but I booked this hotel to visit my girlfriend. She stayed in my room for a few hours a couple nights. While my experience was certainly bad with staff, it is not a reflection of ALL of the staff there. I'll start with the good. Pros: • while hotels are incredibly overpriced, it's about as cheap as you are going to find, and you get what you pay for. • the room itself was fine. Clean, neat, private, good lighting, had a fridge and microwave, and I slept comfortably. • Abundant parking close to entrance. Cons: • A particular staff member was incredibly unprofessional, grumpy, and disrespectful, and made a highly uncomfortable (and unprofessional) comment regarding my girlfriend and me. • Hallway would smell like weed. • Room cards were finicky, taking multiple swipes sometimes. I had to ask an employee to reset mine because my card stopped scanning on the second night. • Poor management led to more people booking rooms (via 3rd party sites) than they physically had available, resulting in people being (and I cannot stress this enough) RUDELY turned away even if they had already paid online. I settled for whatever room they had available. I had such a bad experience with the people here between that staff member and the other people staying (the energy was miserable) that I will not be coming back here again when I visit."
