Getting around Detroit

In central Detroit, you can easily get around without renting a car. However, if you are staying in the fringes of the city you will certainly want to have access to a vehicle of your own. Most of the main tourist sights are in or around the downtown area, though. Get around on the People Mover light railway, the QLine streetcar, or on foot. Try the MoGo bike share program as a healthy alternative. Visit the Detroit Department of TransportationOpens in a new window website.Browse Detroit rental cars.

Best time to visit

The majority of tourists choose to come to Detroit in the late spring, when the weather in the city is mild but sunny. However, summer is also a great time to visit, and finding accommodations will be easier at this time of year. Expect temperatures to reach the mid 80s F (high 20s C) at their highest. Detroit winters are usually very long and cold, with snow being a possibility all the way into April.
