There were signs of an old building refurbished, like the low-feeling ceilings and painted over bumps in the trim, a patch of plaster on the bathroom wall where something had once been, but everything was very clean. There were lots of grab bars around the tub in our ADA accessible room, but no shower seat. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was an extra charge when we booked, which has not been the norm with our Holiday Inn Express experiences before. 12 minute drive to my conference at the Raleigh Convention Center. Lots of great eating places nearby. The hotel was clean. The room was comfortable. The pillows plush. There were three sets of couples that came to stay. We chose this hotel because it was close to where we were going to a Christmas party, and because it had a bar. When we checked in, we were told the bar would be open from 5 PM until 11 PM. After the Christmas party, we went back to sit at the bar for a nightcap. The bar was not open. The man at the front desk said that it had not been opened at all. The lobby was full of people there to socialize, etc. It was extremely disappointing that the bar was never opened. We did not eat breakfast because we did not want to pay extra for the breakfast.
