"The Hotel Sofia is a great place to stay in downtown San Diego. Walking distance to anyplace you’d like to go. If not the trolley is just a block away. The staff is very friendly and answered any questions I had to my satisfaction. Will definitely be back. "

"This is absolutely the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever stayed at. I booked it on Expedia and the pictures looked gorgeous. I got to the hotel and although check in was easy, that was the only good thing about the entire stay. The rooms don’t look like the pictures at all, it’s clear they used professional pictures to compensate for how old the rooms are. My room which was a nonsmoking room stunk of cigarettes. Not only that but the corner above the curtains had water damage and black mold along with a spider family. The room was filthy, there was no blanket, and the fridge was open so I couldn’t even put my food in it because it wasn’t cold. I called and asked for another room and thankfully was able to get one. I had to walk to the complete opposite side of the hotel to get another gross room- fridge open, shower head absolutely gross, no blanket on the bed, no trash bags in the trash, hair in the sink, and hair and stains on all the towels, and although no cigarette smell, a musty smell. But the absolute worst part was this box on the top of the wall that emits a very powerful blue light. So bright that you turn the lights off and can still see everything in the room as if the lights were still on. I literally could not sleep. I felt so gross the entire time I was here- gave motel6 vibes. I was also relaxing in my room and someone shoved a menu through my door and scared the sh** out of me. Literally the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had and I’m constantly traveling."

"The location can’t be. The hotels looking a bit worn. Most of the bars and restaurants weren’t open during a portion of my stay. The rooftop pool was OK, but the rest of the area looked very dated. My room was clean by the sink had significant water damage, and the wood was warped. It’s just looking at its age and needs a major overhaul."

"Clean & friendly! Hot tub was unusable for 2 days - low water, dirty- but there were tons of teenage kids in it days prior. Everything else was good!"

"The property itself is definitely a bit nostalgic – very much in the style of the 60s beach family vacation vibe, which can feel a little bit dated or charming, depending on your view. It’s a really beautiful spot and there are two pool areas as well as a walking path along the bay. Room was nice, clean, and comfortable. Would definitely recommend. The only downside is that you really do need to get in your car to go exploring, but it’s pretty centrally located with easy drive to Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and the airport or downtown. But if you’re looking to be in an area where you can walk to shops, cafés, restaurants that’s not what this offers. But very relaxing to sit by the pool and there is a restaurant on site."
