Caught the early morning sun as it rose over the horizon, its rays warming up this lighthouse on a very cold winter's day.
The lighthouse, established in 1749 at Beavertail Point, was the granddaddy of all Rhode Island lighthouses and only the third one—after Boston Harbor and Nantucket’s Brant Point—in the American colonies. Today is a museum that features a collection of information, artifacts, and conversation about the history and site of the third-oldest lighthouse in North America. The lighthouse is located in Beavertail State Park at the end of Beavertail Road, at the southern tip of Conanicut Island. There is free parking. I recently watched a documentary on the English painter, JMW Turner. I was much moved by his treatment of light and how he could 'paint' the atmosphere. Here's my attempt to emulate this great artist.
Beavertail Lighthouse was designed to help sailors navigate through stormy waters. Still a distinguished local landmark today, it's sure to have some tales to tell about sailing triumphs and rescues.

You'll have sightseeing choices galore when visiting Jamestown. Beavertail Lighthouse is a great place to begin here, but there are lots of other fine places to experience. Fort Adams State Park, The Breakers, and International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum are close to the longstanding beacon and will round out your day nicely.

Was met with a rude, quick phone call from the host when expressing the room accommodations were not as displayed on Expedia. Purchased a "deluxe king room" that had a jacuzzi for our anniversary and was told thats not what we get for the price point even though what we paid was in the range of that said room on their personal website. The shower had mold, bed was creaky and moderately comfortable, and breakfast was limited (2 pieces of bread and half a pear- bacon offered but I dont eat red meat and no alternatives were able to be made). Host was nicer in person but disappointed with the lack of accommodations.
