Read carefully, I am well-traveled.

This hotel is a solid 4.5+ property situated at the bottom of the horseshoe and a few steps away from a major supermarket, Selecto, where you can get fresh and healthy food and anything else you would buy from your favorite grocery store back home. Also, other types of shops and bars/nightclubs are virtually next door. If you don’t need to drive around I highly recommend not renting a car and shuttling/taxing from/to the airport. Besides, car rental companies are Mexican bandits and will force you to buy a $30 per day insurance even when your credit card covers you 100%.
The staff at this hotel make you feel like the King of Persia. They are attentive and polite without being in your face for tips, which is not what I can say about the many excursion-sellers who buzz around the shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is little old but kept immaculately clean and bright.
The beach strip at this hotel is very nice, clean and well-kept with lots of available beach-beds. There are several large pools that are also well-kept and clean. The exercise facility is topnotch with all the amenities of a fancy club.
Lastly, a bit of nitpicking. Because of the way this hotel is positioned you lose the sun early in the afternoon, whereas hotels situated on the other side enjoy the full sun from sunup to sunset. Also, this property is huge so you may feel a bit isolated if you are not the quiet type.
