Top things to do in Guerrero

Guerrero

Explore caves and rivers amid undulating terrain and visit the cultured cities that make up the Triangle of the Sun.

The Mexican state of Guerrero lies on the Pacific Coast and is known for its archeological sites and picturesque terrain. It's a hotspot for kayaking, rock climbing and paintball. Delve into the caves to admire old paintings and intriguing rock formations.

Enjoy hot summers in the beach-laden paradise of Zihuatanejo, made famous in the film The Shawshank Redemption. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere on the bays of Las Gatas Beach and La Ropa Beach. Go snorkeling along the King’s Reef to spot colorful fish and stroll down Fisherman’s Walk.

Travel south down the coast for 155 miles (250 kilometers) by plane or car to reach Acapulco. The town’s main square, Zócalo, has fountains, large trees and La Catedral. Sunbathe on some of the picturesque stretches of sand, such as La Roqueta Island.

A little south of the town is Puerto Marqués, an area of beaches and seafood restaurants. Make your way to La Quebrada Cliffs to see daring individuals diving from the summit into a shallow stream.

The cultural commune of Taxco is among the most visited parts of the state and offers an insight into inland Guerrero. Visit the impressive Church of Santa Prisca, the Casa Humboldt and the Casa Borda Cultural Center. Browse the Plaza de las Americas Shopping Mall.

Ride the Teleferico de Montetaxco to the top of the mountain and enjoy views of Taxco. Nearby is the Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park, containing the state’s best-known caves and subterranean rivers.

Chat with locals to get a sense of the culture here. Although Spanish is the primary language, many speak English and the indigenous language of Guerrero Amuzgo.

Find the state just south along the Pacific Coast from Colima in the southwestern corner of Mexico. Fly to one of the international airports in Acapulco or Zihuatanejo and get around the state by bus or taxi. The main cities have fairly modern public transportation services.

Guerrero blends intriguing cultures and traditions with thrilling outdoor activities.
