At 850 feet (260 m) high, the 70-story building is the 14th tallest in New York City and is a great place for capturing views at sunset (especially because it offers views of the Empire State Building). To get this shot, head to the top of Rockefeller Center, known as "Top of the Rock." The entrance is on W 50th St between 5th and 6th Avenues. Tickets can be purchased on the basement level of building. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance in order to make your way to the top by sunset (the entry system is timed). Also allot time for a security screening and wait times at the elevator. Once you arrive at the observation deck take the escalator to the upper levels where your views won't be impeded by the glass windscreens. Tripods are not allowed (although monopods are allowed), but you can rest your camera on the stone barriers of the upper observation deck. At the same time, the only heat source was a radiator with no temperature control, causing the room temperature to rise to approximately 78°F. With no ability to regulate the temperature and rain entering through the window, we were forced to turn the heat off entirely and endure the conditions for the night since it was already very late. The second night presented another major disruption. Around 1:00 AM, a rooftop compressor from the neighboring building began cycling on and off, producing noise comparable to a semi-truck directly outside our 12th-floor window. We contacted the front desk and were eventually offered a room change at 1:00 AM. The replacement room unfortunately had similar issues: again, there was no HVAC control beyond a radiator that could only be turned on or off, and the window air conditioner had been bagged and left in the window, allowing cold drafts and outside noise into the room. Additionally, we were informed that the water would be shut off from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM the following day, which required us to alter our plans. The most difficult situation occurred on our departure morning. Checkout was at 11:00 AM, and when we woke up we discovered that the water was once again shut off. This meant we were unable to shower, brush our teeth.
