Spent the night in this cabin at the top of Elwood Pass at an altitude of 11,345 feet. Elwood Cabin was built at the beginning of the 1900’s. It was used by telephone lineman. The cabin was donated to the forest service in the 50’s. What an incredible place to spend the night in. Then to our surprise it even snowed a bit this 26th of September.

Crater Lake near Elwood Pass in Colorado. The hike in from Elwood Pass is 3.5 miles in starting at 11,345ft topping out at about 12,500ft before dropping about 1000ft to the lake. Beautiful hike and great place to stop and enjoy.
Summitville was an old mining town high in the SanJuan mountains. More than a quarter million Troy ounces of gold was mined here between 1873-1959. Now an EPA superfund site due to the chemicals leaching into the surrounding area. Mining has been stopped but very cool to go up to Summitville at an altitude of about 11,500 ft and walk around the old wooden structures left by the inhabitants. In 1885 there were up to 250 mining claims at this site. #winterwonders
There's something cool about having the entire lake to ourselves for dispersed camping. Incredible 360 views.🏕🏔
