Vacationers in search of warmth visit Aruba year-round, with the northernmost Arashi or Arasji area a great spot for crystal-clear waters and quiet surroundings. Soak up the rays while relaxing on the white-sand Arashi Beach. As the area is away from the bustling capital city, you’ll find fewer crowds and a serene atmosphere.
Family-friendly Arashi Beach offers gentle currents and shallow waters for swimmers, snorkelers and beginner body-boarders. For more colorful Caribbean marine life, move to the southern end of the beach, which has an excellent snorkeling area. Watch for angelfish, damselfish, long-spined urchins, pillar coral and more.
While the area doesn’t have a plethora of amenities, you’ll find convenient showers, lounge chair rentals, a bar and a spacious parking lot. A few thatched-roof huts are available, perfect for relief from the sun. Pack your own food and water if you’re planning to stay for the day.
Head south to reach Boca Catalina, one of Aruba’s best swimming beaches, with a calm surf. Access the water here easily. The general midweek atmosphere is one of seclusion and privacy, while weekends can be somewhat crowded.
About 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) south of Arashi Beach in an upscale residential area, Malmok Beach, whose seacoast of the same name is another snorkeling gem. This narrow stretch of sand sits between the limestone and rock that make up much of the northwestern coastline. Enjoy calm, clear waters, whether snorkeling or diving around the reefs and sunken wrecks offshore.
While you’re in the area, visit the landmark California Lighthouse, built in 1910. Climb to the top for 360-degree island views. Stay for the sunset and you might glimpse the fabled “green flash” just as the sun disappears below the horizon. The lighthouse is open every day.
