The capital of Arkansas offers southern hospitality, pre-Civil War history and modern cultural attractions, from symphony orchestras to lively market areas.

Experience the southern charm of Little Rock, a city with a laid-back pace, friendly locals and Civil War history. The city is split in two by the Arkansas River, with Little Rock on one side and North Little Rock on the other.

Visit the River Market District on the banks of the Arkansas River. Many visitors opt to stay in this area as there’s a variety of accommodation. Enjoy the busy nightlife and crowded restaurants then walk back to your hotel. Catch a glimpse of La Petite Roche, the little rock that gave the city its name in the mid-18th century, from the river’s edge. Wander through the farmers’ market or catch a show at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre where a constant stream of events and festivals is held throughout the year.

See some American history at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, named after the former Arkansas senator and U.S. president. Walk through a life-size replica of the Oval Office and browse political exhibits. Step back in time in Little Rock’s historic Quapaw Quarter. Stroll down streets lined with the city’s oldest homes. Admire the grand Governor’s Mansion and relax in the tranquil MacArthur Park. Learn about pre-Civil War society and frontier history at the Historic Arkansas Museum.

Treat yourself to an evening of music at the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. The Arkansas Arts Center is located in the heart of downtown, and offers anything from adult art classes to children’s theater. Leave a few hours to walk through the center’s permanent collection, which houses original works from Van Gogh and Rembrandt, among others.

The popular Little Rock Zoo is home to hundreds of exotic species, including elephants and tigers. Children will delight in the Museum of Discovery, where interactive exhibits bring math and science to life.

Summers in Arkansas are hot and humid. Cool off at Wild River Country, the state’s largest water park.

Little Rock is easily accessible via Clinton National Airport, and sits along a major interstate highway. A River Rail Electric Streetcar system services downtown. Rent a car or catch a bus to explore the neighborhoods outside of downtown.
