Nice, near ocean!

Location is great. Our balcony was very dirty. Chairs and cushions were dirty. Outside needs a good powerwashing. There was a leaking dripping sound on the outside hitting something that could be heard inside and it never stopped. Wonderful shower but no bars inside the shower to hang washcloth while washing or after. Poor planning One corner of rug was loose and bent back - tripping hazard. The rooster outside started crowing before daylight. Breakfast was good and affordable. Interior design was very nice. I grew up in Darien and sure miss the docks and shrimp boats that were removed to make room for the hotels by the river

I am a frequent visitor / fan of SSI. 2 to 3 times a year. We were at a conference on Jekyll and had a couple days left and chose to stay 2 nites at Ocean Lodge. Covered parking and across the street access from the beach were big draws. I thought it would be a fun change from the places we usually stay with our dogs and often family. I remember the rooftop bar as a fun lively bar so thought the 2 nights there would be fun. Sadly, this property is exhausted and has lost its vision. It wasn’t a happy beach stay but felt heavy and sort of institutional. Like staying there we weren’t aware we were at the beach. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, but everything was remodeled for wheelchair accessibility,including a chair in the shower, etc. The very sparse furnishing were a mix of heavy wood pieces found in an Indian open air marketplace, decorated with lions and a chair from Target. The patio is cool with the room but no view of anything besides the concrete railing porch enclosure. We felt trapped. . The a/c worked in main living area but not in the bedroom. After maintenance fixed it, it did cool but flooded on the floor in bedroom / bathroom area. We turned it off after cleaning the water up. It’s hard to say what is happening at OL but a fun rooftop bar, good dining and great beach vibes are not happening. We just felt sad for the property and sad being there. Bypass this property until they find their vision. The staff tried hard.
