Pros: Great overall
Good sandy beach. Great service from all staff. Good food choices. Enjoyed all the different restaurants we went too. Great drink selections and bar tenders are talented.

Great beach location

Posted Nov 17, 2014
Location: Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen is just a one mile walk down the beach. There is plenty of shopping to do there.
All of the staff at the Riu are wonderful. They are very accomodating and friendly. The junior suite was nothing special. It was clean. The bed was average. The water pressure was poor and the toilets only flushed properly about every fourth time. The buffets were average. We had very delicious meals at the steakhouse, the Brazilian restaurant and the Japaness restaurant. Some of the evening entertainment was great (live bands on the plaza, international show, Michael Jackson impersonator) while others were not (men vs. women, karaoke).

Standard All Inclusive

Posted Nov 13, 2014
My wife and I went for our honeymoon and it was alright. It is more geared towards people who want to be constantly entertained and we really just wanted a quiet place to sit by the pool with water aerobics, bingo and loud frat guys playing volleyball in the pool. If you're looking for a happening place, then you'll love it. If you're lookin for a lower key environment best keep searching.

Overall very good. Food in specialty restaurants could use a makeover. Our room was great but there is a musky smell in the hallways that also gets into the room if you turn on the AC.

Pros: The staff, the food, the rooms; except the wine, the Brazilian and Japanese restaurant the food is not very good. The wines needs to be a little older
Cons: The music, better dancing music, smoking should have special area.
Location: for us just to be close to the ocean was fantastic!!!
Excellent service, but the Brazilian and Japanese restaurant the food was not very good. Your wines should a least 3 years old.

Great hotel, food, drinks, activities on the beach

Posted Nov 6, 2014
Great hotel, very friendly staff, good range of activities on the beach in Playacar. 15 minutes walk to central Playa del Carmen. Rooms are a great size with separate sitting area. Lots of restaurants to choose from, however the fine dining ones require bookings 2 days in advance and only between 12.- 3pm .. Great range of cocktails And drinks. Would certainly stay there again.
