Great staff average everything elsePosted Mar 4, 2014
Nice beach very attentive staff. Food and drink were in generous supply but acreage at best. Room and hotel in general very dated-- could use a facelift.

Riu is the best hotel in Mexico!Posted Mar 3, 2014
Pros: The staff, Rodrigo, Hector, Marlen, Maury, Wilberth, Tilo, Mendez, Fernanda, Diego, Raphael, Victor, David and so many more are truly wonderful.
Cons: I would have loved for the air conditioning in the room to work a little better.
Location: You can get a massage in downtown Playa for $20US! Scuba dive with Tamara at the Riu resort; it's unforgettable! Go to Tulum; you won't regret it!
I Go to Riu to relax, unwind, have amazing dinners and more. Had so much fun! From the moment you walk into the palace hotel, you feel at home. Except, you are directly on the beach and you're immediately greeted with a refreshing concoction of fruits freshly puréed just for you. I feel delicious! While I was there, I was treated like royalty. Every maître de knew me well. I loved that at every dinner there was a lovely bottle of champagne waiting for me upon my arrival. Wilberth provided me with an exceptional dinner on one evening at "Chilis", and was so kind and genuine. Further, Tilo and Maury were supreme in their service! The resort has 5 restaurants that you can enjoy during your stay and I did just that! The Japanese restaurant was my favorite! Rodrigo had thoughtfully scattered rose petals on the table for one of my dinners! Quelle suprise! I definitely recommend the shrimp tempura. Go ahead: splurge for your vacation! The beach is literally steps away. Whether on the beach or at the pool, Victor was happy to take care of me, be it a mojito or a piña colada! And the bartender, David, wow! He knows his stuff! Oh, and by the way, the cocktails are all made with premium liquor, so don't worry about the quality! Pool time was relaxing and entertaining all at the same time. I loved yoga with Diego; it was a great way to start the day! Bottom line: the resort is wonderful! if you want to stay on the property for the duration, you will want for nothing.

Nice hotel, so-so food, terrible juice drinksPosted Feb 22, 2014
Pros: Nice looking hotel, nice pool, nice beach.
Cons: Food is mediocre, special restaurants not worth the waiting. Juice drinks all taste bitter due to the artificial sweetener.
Tried all inclusive here, room is OK though could be very noisy if you are close to the courtyard due to the performance in the courtyard and bar in the night. Buffet food is OK, special restaurants have very limited choice of food selection, not worth the wait. Juice drinks all sweetened with artificial sugar, all tasted bitter, though the breakfast can get you real fruit drinks.

Beautiful beach location.Posted Feb 22, 2014
Pros: The rooms were nice size and the staff.
Cons: The food in the specialty dinning rooms were ok but nothing special.
Location: There were plenty to do close by but having been to Mexico many times, we chose to just stay at the hotel and relax at the beach.
The hotel was extremely pretty and well kept. We never saw a piece of paper on the ground. The staff was always smiling and very helpful. We never had a problem finding a lounge chair in the shade at the beach. There are many palm trees. The beach is beautiful.

Returning Loyal RIU Palace Riviera Maya guestsPosted Feb 20, 2014
This was our 3rd year in a row visiting Playa Del Carmen and staying at RIU Palace Riviera Maya resort. The staff throughout the resort are amazing, and go out of their way to make your stay amazing. The entertainment is wonderful. We will continue to be loyal customers.

Still great after 4 tripsPosted Feb 13, 2014
Pros: the beach
Cons: Nothing major
Location: Great location--within easy walking distance to Playa
My wife and I just stayed at this resort for the fourth time. Once again we had a great vacation. We have been to other resorts in Mexico, but once we discovered the Riu Palace Riviera Maya we just stopped looking elsewhere. It has comfortable clean rooms, a great beach, delicious variety of food, and a friendly staff. We even enjoyed the nightly shows. In our opinion, this place is worth the price.

Great All-Inclusive ResortPosted Feb 13, 2014
Just went for a few days of relaxation prior to a business trip. Lots of couples, not really a singles place during my stay. Nightlife inside the resort was missing, but Playa del Carmen is really close.

Pleasant and relaxing.Posted Feb 13, 2014
Pros: The staff, beach, and restaurants were all great.
Cons: The bathrooms inside the rooms and wifi service (which worked best in the lobby and rarely elsewhere).
Location: This hotel is 5min taxi ride from downtown where there are some shops and restaurants. Right outside the hotel, there are some shops but spendy.
Almost everything about Riu Palace was amazing. The only downside was the bathrooms, which were a bit humid/musty (I believe this is due to the lack of ventilation). However, it wasn't horrible by any means. The worst part about the hotel were the tour booking agents who sit in the lobby. They harass guests to no end. I was there for my sister's wedding and at least 5 of us were yelled at by the tour agents (where the other 10 were told they were "required" to book through these agents of various companies). I had at least 40 people on Best Day Travel shuttles to/from the airport in my group (I was their coordinator). When I asked the guy, Johnathan, for information, he was extremely disrespectful, condescending, and egotistical (possibly because I look younger than I actually am). I will not be going back to this particular location simply because I do not like to be harassed by my tour company. With that said, our travels to/from the airport w/ Best Day Travels were great. The company's representative and drivers were all very helpful and friendly. I would recommend their shuttles to others (but I can't say the same for their tour booking agent at the Riu).

FantasticPosted Feb 12, 2014
Pros: Beach and Food
Location: Great location, close walk to town for shoping.
This place had the best food. Buffet was always excellent with amzing choices. The Brazilian and fusion restaurant was perfect. The beach is beautiful with lots of shade if you need it. Pool was good but I perfect to be on the beach. Staff always had activities going. The rooms are very dated but I believe they are planing reno in 2015.
