Good beach area and dining facilities.

Posted Nov 22, 2014
Hotel is aging. Shower tub is dark and unlighted. There is typical misty smell in lobby and rooms. You can carry that odor back home on clothes. It is not a non-smoking facility. People are allowed to smoke in patio area of rooms. Our room had smell of smokes. Not many vegetarian entrees in all dining area. Most of items have chicken or beef stocks. Food is good quality but no good if your are pure vegetarian. Now nice things; excellent beach area. Staff is also excellent. Should make it non-smoking facility and have separate shower area.

Good sandy beach. Great service from all staff. Good food choices. Enjoyed all the different restaurants we went too. Great drink selections and bar tenders are talented.

Great beach location

Posted Nov 17, 2014
Location: Fifth Avenue in Playa del Carmen is just a one mile walk down the beach. There is plenty of shopping to do there.
All of the staff at the Riu are wonderful. They are very accomodating and friendly. The junior suite was nothing special. It was clean. The bed was average. The water pressure was poor and the toilets only flushed properly about every fourth time. The buffets were average. We had very delicious meals at the steakhouse, the Brazilian restaurant and the Japaness restaurant. Some of the evening entertainment was great (live bands on the plaza, international show, Michael Jackson impersonator) while others were not (men vs. women, karaoke).

Loved the beautiful wood throughout the place .

Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing
Location: Liked the close proximity to the Town of Play Del Carmen and the beach so close.
Enjoyed everything offered by the hotel. Food was excellent at the buffet as well as all the specialty restaurants. Staff members were all polite, hard working, and friendly. Couldn't ask for anything better. Will come again!

Standard All Inclusive

Posted Nov 13, 2014
My wife and I went for our honeymoon and it was alright. It is more geared towards people who want to be constantly entertained and we really just wanted a quiet place to sit by the pool with water aerobics, bingo and loud frat guys playing volleyball in the pool. If you're looking for a happening place, then you'll love it. If you're lookin for a lower key environment best keep searching.

Overall very good. Food in specialty restaurants could use a makeover. Our room was great but there is a musky smell in the hallways that also gets into the room if you turn on the AC.

Great hotel at Playacar area

Posted Nov 11, 2014
Pros: The hotel really gives its best to have its guests entertained and pleased.
Cons: Beds are a bit old and you kind-of sink on them. Themed restaurants fill up too soon. Reservations have to be make 3day in advance :s
Location: Location is great. You can walk safely at night and reach the party street with a short cab ride.
We had a great time at Riu Palace Riviera Maya during the past weekend. Location is great, service is excellent and the food is quite tasty during all day long. The hotel really gives its best to have its guests entertained and pleased. During the first night there was an outdoor party with a great live band playing at the center kiosk. Wish I could hire that band for my wedding :) Second day at the beach was great. Music is loud enough for people to have a good time and quiet enough to allow lazy guys like me sleep without concern. Beach-drink-service is great. They really deliver all your special requests. Final day there was a party at the beach with live music, dance contest and food and coconut drinks for everybody.
