OkPosted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: The room was small and no bathtub. The toilet was broken. Staff had someone come up to fix it, but it never worked.
Cons: Maybe have the staff follow up to see if our toilet was fixed.
Location: Beautiful area! A little problem with seaweed on the beach and in the water. The conditions were not ideal for snorkeling. Should not had us go out.
The hotel staff was awesome especially housekeeping!

Great, inexpensive resort on the beachPosted Mar 24, 2015
Two friends and I went for five days to playa del Carmen and stayed at this resort. We got a super good deal on this hotel and were some expecting it to be poor quality because of that, but were pleasantly surprised. Our room was literally on the beach and the all inclusive restaurants you could make reservations for were amazing. The buffet food was so so, but everything else made up for it. There were lots of activities to do and the beach cabana boys were always trying to recruit people for various games. There is a show at night and a disco tech if you want to dance without leaving the hotel. There is also a Starbucks right next to the hotel (major brownie points). Overall I was VERY satisfied with my experience and want to go back... Like... NOW.

AmenitiesPosted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: very close to beach, staff very friendly, helpful, clean
Cons: charging for use of safe, no FREE WI FI or internet which is ridiculous, extra charge if wanted these , room did not have drawers to put clothing in
Location: near major city, beaches, tourist attractions
Hotel was very clean, close to beach, lots of daily activities. Food and staff were fantastic. Pool was great. However extra charge for wi fi, internet and use of safe not expected. Room did not have dresser to put clothing in. Hotel needs to up their amenities or people will stay somewhere else.

3rd Time At This LocationPosted Mar 20, 2015
Pros: Staff friendly and efficent. food good with good variety. 24 hr food and drink. Right on the beach. You can walk to town in about half an hour.
Cons: Internet is the big thing - slow and unreliable but you can buy internet but costs and you hav to sit in a room.
Location: Great location. You can walk to town in about half an hour. Great gym in town (called "The Gym"). The walk to town along the beach is awsesome!.
This hotel will appeal to a certain type of traveller. 1. It is cozy and well laid out. 2. Beachfront and can walk to the water in about 5 minutes from any spot on the resort. 3. Smaller footprint which I like but some may find a little small. 4. Staff are excellent - friendly and efficient. 5. Food and drinks available 24 hrs. Beach bar open all night - with food. 6. Attracts a mix of Europeans, Canadians and Americans. You hear several languages being spoken. 7. Relatively quiet.and relaxing. 8. In all inclusive package you get several speciality resturants to choose from - reservations required. 9.Food in main dining hall has a good variety and each night is a different theme. 10.Beach is one of the best I have been on. 11.Good spot for families, couples - probably too slow if you are 22 12. Walk to town by beach or road in half an hour - but it is about 10 resorts in a row so it is busy but fine. 13.Also can walk the other direction along the beach and within 10 minutes the resorts are behind you and you get into some pretty good beach nature - very nice. 14.Overall this is a well priced resort in a great location, good beach, great staff, nice layout.

Great hotel with so much to doPosted Mar 19, 2015
Pros: Beach, pool, staff, location, activities
Cons: Need softer beds
Location: Very close to Playa del Carmen. Also has a shopping market at the end of the hotel's driveway.
We stayed at the Viva Maya from 3/7 - 3/14 and loved it. We brought our 4 high school and college age children and they said it was the best vacation yet. First - the beach is beautiful! The waves coming into the beach area were huge on windy days - fun to play in and body surf. There were plenty of chairs for everyone. My daughter and nephew went para-sailing - the men running the boat did an amazing job, I felt they were very safe at all times. They had volleyball tournaments on the beach as well. There were a few vendors selling sterling silver on the beach, but not many and they didn't bother you if you said no thank you. Second - the pool was warm and not too crowded - you can always get a chair there too. The staff was amazing - always getting people involved in the activities by the pool - water aerobics, dancing, music, etc. Third - there is always something going on. In addition to the activities mentioned above by the pool and on the beach, they had ping pong, bocce ball, yoga, dance lessons, belly flop contest, a "mr maya" contest, and they have a disco to go dancing at night - all things my kids enjoyed. Rooms are not fancy but they are nice and are very clean. The beds are very firm so my husband and I woke up with sore backs many days, but once we were up and moving around it went away. We also kept our A/C on at all times so we never had a problem with noise in the hallways. Food was not great but we could always find something we liked.

NOT recommendedPosted Mar 13, 2015
Pros: It was kept very clean.
Cons: See above. Experience section.
Location: We have frequented Playa del Carmen many times and recommend it to eveyrone we come in contact with. The weather is always great.
We do not recommend this resort for the following reasons: Room: You have to pay extra to use the safe. On arrival you receive one bottle of water. The refrigerator is empty and never refilled. No clock in the room. No tissues in the room. One bath towel per person. One hand towel. No wash clothes. No ice machine anywhere. When we first arrived we were given a third floor room. We are both in our seventies. There are no elevators. This was considered the new section but the room was small, the shower had only half a glass door, the shower head could only be adjusted up or down and was not on a swivel. Therefore the water went all over the room. We asked for and received a first floor room in the older section on our second day. The older section rooms are virtually identical, but larger, with full shower enclosures. Buffet: Monotonous meals. Every day for breakfast lunch and dinner food with little or no variation. Oleo labeled as butter. Undrinkable wine. Pool area: One towel per day per guest. Every umbrella broken. You have to tie them up with the broken string that holds them up. Too much rap music. Time-share owners are considered VIP's with segregated seating on the beach and buffet. This is something we have never encountered in our world wide travels. Many resorts have time-shares. None of them segregate the guests. That said, the time-share owners eat the same food and use the same pool

Disappointed in resort.Posted Mar 9, 2015
Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
One "complimentary" water placed in the room for "the week" even though we were told not to "drink" the tap water; had to bring water from bar and/or restaurant areas to brush teeth! No refrigerator in room. Beach was beautiful first 2-3 days but then there was a storm and it washed moss on the beach. Workers didn't (and couldn't) clear it off because there was too much. Shows were the "same" every night--appreciate staff but didn't like watching them lip-sync/dance for every show. Had to pay to use safe in room! Felt this was ridiculous. Very plain resort - will never return or use another Wyndham. Our feeling was there had been "cutbacks" at resort and the wrong things have been cut. We've stayed in Mexico several times and this definitely was the worse resort thus far. The "staff" was nice - not their fault.

Good access to everything.Posted Jan 29, 2015
Pros: I like the size of this place. I don't like the bigger ones where it is a long walk to get to anything.
Location: Close to town.
Ok, nothing but great things to say about the staff. They work their butts off and keep a smile on their face all day long. They were awesome. The currency exchange lady was a bit sour. The smallest bills she could give me were 100 pesos and I wanted to buy a 1 dollar post card at the gift shop and she said she didn't have change for a 10.00 dollar bill, so bring lots of 1.00 dollar bills. I talked to Salvador at the reception desk and he was a great help in assisting me to get change for a 20.00 dollar bill. Carlos was our favorite bartender at the pool bar. He was the only bartender who would make us a cocoa loco. As far as the shows go, the one you absolutely don't want to miss is the Usher, Rhianna, Lady Gaga, Micheal Jackson, Bruno Mars show. They do it every other Saturday night and it is fantastic.
