Whispering Pines Ranch House

Chalet with spa tub, near Dixie National Forest
Entrance is right on HWY 89, tucked up under towering ponderosa pines, Whispering Pines Properties presents a luxurious step back in time. Originally built in 1960 by Tom Haycock, this ranchers cabin has been updated with all the comforts of a five star motel, while still keeping many original features creating a nostalgic and memorable experience for all. Whispering Pines resort is located 35 min away from both Zion and Bryce Canyon.

The Space:
Whether your Family is looking for the adventure of Zion National Park or the beauty of Bryce Canyon, you'll need a place to relax at the end of the day. Whispering Pines is easily accessed off 89, but built away from the beaten path, surrounded by some of Utah's most breathtaking scenery. Hiking, biking, and skiing are all within minutes of our convenient location.

This beautiful ranch house sits on 250 of the most breath taking acres. Yes, you came to visit the parks, but you will find your fondest memories coming from our property. The cabin is approximate 1000 sf with 3 bedrooms, 1 large loft with 3 beds and 1 full bath. Nice kitchen with quality appliances, a large outdoor grill. Sitting area with fireplace great for reading or relaxing. Patio furniture and hammock swings. Air conditioning and heat. Washer and Dryer. New Hot tub overlooking the canyon.

(Fun History) 2016, Dr. Robert Barrick and Family of 6 kids left their 6000 sqft mansion on the golf course in Cedar City, and moved into this cabin in the summer of 2016. At the time, it only had one bedroom and a loft. With a record breaking winter (Ave of 5 ft of snow) the Barricks grew close as a family and learned how to do hard things. Their story reminded them of the Beverley Hillbillies but in reverse, so one night, they wrote this song. (look up my wife's blog on zions hillbilies).
From their generator shed burning down to their daughter being attacked by a bear, the Barricks had a year to remember. Each feature of the cabin tells a story of it's exciting history. (Example) the master bed was made from the fire scared panels of the burnt down shed.
The cabin is adorned with local art including a painting from the owner.

As you sit and watch the deer peacefully graze out into the meadow, you can hear the wind whisper through the pines. Listen closely and you will hear Ol' Tom Haycock welcoming you to his cherished valley.

The Neighborhood:
Whispering Pines Cabin is located 2 miles south of Tod's Junction Gas station on HWY 89. (35 min from both Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park)
Tod's Junction has many of the items you will need to enjoy your stay. For a gas station, they are great. They offer Hamburgers, Hot dogs and my favorite, Steak Sandwiches. We suggest stopping by Lyn's Grocery Store in Cedar City, or Terry's grocery store in Orderville to buy most of your food, however. Terry's is 15 min south of our cabin. Duck Creek is 15 min away and has a few great restaurants to choose from. Hot Momma's Pizza and Brew is great. So is Aunt Sues Diner.

Getting Around:
Cedar City Airport is the closest decent sized airport. Las Vegas is the closest International Airport. 3 hours away.

Private cabin setting surrounded by trees
We had a beautiful stay at the Whispering Pines Cabin. My family and I spent 3 days at the cabin to get away from the hustle and bustle and summer heat of Las Vegas. The property is secluded and private and surrounded by trees. It's nice and quiet and exactly what we were looking for. Upon entering the cabin it was very clean, all the floors were swept, the rooms were tidy and the beds were made and the kitchen was stocked with everything necessary (plates, bowls, cups, baking pans, utensils) and condiments as well (mustard, ketchup, peanut butter, etc...) There is an indoor fireplace which was nice and worked well at keeping the cabin warm early in the morning when the temperature dropped into the high 30s. Widescreen TV in the living room which is connected to Netflix. The WiFi was not lightning fast but worked well enough to provide internet access without any issues. Outside of the cabin you have many things to do: a firepit which we used several times to build a fire, a hot tub which was set to 104 F although we never got around to using it, a large trampoline which my daughter loved to play on, several swings and hammocks around the property, plenty of chairs set up on the porch. There were also plenty of walking trails all along the property which I enjoyed exploring. I met the owner, Rob, on two different occasions and he was very nice and welcoming. He gave us several suggestions on things to do in the area and he was even nice enough to leave his ATV for us and allowed us to take it out on the trails if we wanted to. We saw three deer approximately 100 feet from the cabin on the morning we were leaving. Plenty of deer were seen on Highway 14 driving to and from the cabin. Made a day trip to Navajo Lake and Cedar Breaks (both approximately 30 minutes away). Zion and Bryce are both very close to the cabin. We wanted a nice quiet place to stay in the forest and this cabin did not disappoint. I would not hesitate to book another stay at this cabin again in the future. Thank you!

Beautiful property
We loved our stay in early August. The location is ideal for visiting the nearby national parks. The cabin is situated away from the main road for privacy. It was well-stocked and clean upon arrival. Our kids loved playing outside on the trampoline, playing horseshoes and exploring. There was a propane-fueled fire pit for sitting around in the evening and making s'mores. There are well-maintained hiking trails on the property and we saw many deer.

Perfect location, Amazing farmhouse
We spent 5 nights here with 2 adults and 2 children. First, the access into the property is super easy once the owner sends the more specific directions. It's around .75 mile off the road and absolutely silent at the house. This is the only house on the property and total seclusion. The inside of the house was perfect. The rooms were like new and the owner thought of everything you may need to make your stay perfect. There were so many little touches we were impressed with. All of the beds were comfortable. Kids room with the bunk beds came with a TV, DVD player, books, and games. We used some DVD's we had from home and the kids loved their little hideaway. The other 2 first floor rooms have queen beds and are both very well decorated and functional. the kitchen had everything you may need from a plug in skillet to cake pans we used to make a birthday cake. The loft has a very low ceiling and small entry. Defiantly for kids or small adults. Outside was the little Hot Tub. Could fit 4 max if needed. We enjoyed the hot tub twice which was great after a long day of hiking in the parks. There are many hanging swing seats around the house. The front deck has some great seats to have coffee and enjoy the quiet. We loved to explore the property and watch all the deer in the evenings. The owner did stop by while working on the property one afternoon. He was a super nice person and we really enjoyed talking to him and hearing the history of the property with him and his family. He was very helpful and made it clear he would do whatever needed to make our stay as good as he could. The location had a few benefits to us. First of all this property sits right between Zion and Bryce Canyon Nat. Park. We made many trips to each of them while staying. One day we went to Zion for the morning. We then came back to the house and had dinner. We then went to Bryce Canyon for sunset. The drive to Zion is about 45 min. and to Bryce Canyon about 60 min. We also loved how this house sits at a higher elevation than Zion. One day we left Zion and it was 112 deg. in the valley. As we drove back to the house it slowly cooled down to 87 deg. at the house. It also helps that the sun sets behind the house where there is a large hill, plus all the tall pine trees. This starts the cooling early and the evenings at the house were very pleasant after a few very hot days in Zion. This was the perfect house for our trip and we absolutely loved it.

Beautiful cabin on a lot of private land
We enjoyed the cabin and the property it’s on. The hot tub was broken, but the owners made up for it by letting us borrow their atv to site see on the property. Our kids enjoyed the trampoline, bunk beds, loft area, and tree swings. The cabin provided everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay!

The best!!! I can't wait to go back
We spent four days at Whispering Pines and loved everything about our stay. The property that the cabin is on is amazing: HUGE, very secluded and peaceful yet close to everything. The owners were such nice people, I felt more like I was staying at the cabin of a close friend rather than renting it from HomeAway. It was rustic enough to still feel like we were at a cabin but had such nice amenities we had everything we needed to have a relaxing getaway. Our group consisted of two seniors, three adults, and four kids, there was something for everyone and we were all comfortable and had a great time. I really can't wait to go back, highly recommended.
