YOUNG COUPLES, DO NOT COME HERE
Posted Feb 1, 2016
This is such a beautiful and historic inn, it's a shame the staff is so discriminatory. My fiancé and I are in our early 20s and the second we walked into the inn we had issues. First off, the staff had not checked their email from the booking site and interrogated us on whether or not we had actually booked to stay there. Later on, we went down to the restaurant excited to spoil ourselves on an expensive meal and a nice bottle of wine. We were told we could only sit in the bar which was a small room secluded from the other guests in the dining room (there were 2 or 3 tables open in the dining room of less than 10 tables). We sat there for about 15 minutes without even being looked at. Meanwhile an older couple walked in and the staff practically kissed their feet. The couple was hurriedly offered drinks, bread, and a table in the dining room before we had even been greeted by our server. After that, one of the inn keepers came up to us saying "we are just not going to be able to accommodate you tonight, I can recommend somewhere else for you to go, but it is too busy tonight for us to accommodate you." She then recommended another place for us to eat that was equally discriminatory. As we ate our dinner a table behind us joked that we would have to wash dishes out back to pay for our meal. After these experiences, I would never recommend that a young couple come to the Adair inn and restaurant or Bethleham New Hampshire.

We are so sorry you were unhappy with your stay here at Adair. It is very rare that we have guests who are, as is evidenced by the very positive reviews we have received on Expedia. That being said, I remember when you arrived last Saturday night around 7:30 pm having booked last minute (at 5:00 pm) on Expedia. As innkeepers of a small establishment, we wear many hats and were in the middle of serving guests to a full dining room. We had not logged on to our reservation system in a few hours.and thus were unaware of the booking. We quickly checked our system, saw the reservation and promptly showed you to the room. When asked about dinner, I mentioned we were fully booked but would try and accommodate you in our library bar. You came into the bar moments later. .I was serving cocktails to guests who had made reservations and were waiting for their table...I subsequently took them into dining room to be seated. I then spoke with our chef and wait staff and we determined that it was not possible to handle another table for 30-40 minutes to ensure excellent food and service. You both decided, however, you did not wish to wait, even after I offered you soup or bread to hold you over until then. I offered to make reservations at another restaurant just down the road where we always refer guests. In closing, we truly tried our best. We apologize if our inability to accommodate your dinner reservation and slight mix up at check in was interpreted as being discriminatory to young people....
