About this property

More than just a place to sleep

Family-friendly guesthouse in Florissant with spa tub
Altitude and attitude are attributes unique to Colorado and we think you'll agree. 9300 ft. of altitude at our place and there's no arguing that you'll be in the clouds here. Hiking our 40 acre property with 270 degree views of the Sangre de Cristo and Collegiate Mountain ranges, your attitude will soar. Our active/passive solar home faces south with stunning views and lots of glass to absorb the Colorado sun. We've got radiant heat beneath tile floors and a comfortable environment year round. The house has two levels, each 2000 sq. ft. The garden level is all yours. There is a separate driveway, parking, private entrance, large patio with grill, clean hot tub, fire-pit with unlimited firewood and a playground for the kids . Enjoy these while you gaze at the incredible starry mountain sky. While you'll not see or hear us unless you'd like to, we'd be happy to point you in the right direction or answer any questions you may have about the area. We are Valerie and Don...how-do-you-do...a retired couple and 2 friendly dogs, Chance and Roxy who will be there to greet you. Our avocations include home exchanging around the world, building things and planning the greenhouse we are going to add next. A game of Scrabble and a glass of wine on one of our patios is as wild as we get.
You'll be quite comfortable here; lots of light, three bedrooms with comfy queen beds, plus a 4th mini bed room with a comfy daybed. One of the bedrooms has a full-size bunk bed set and a twin-size bunk bed set in addition to the Queen bed. There is tons of storage should you stay a while, two large bathrooms, a separate laundry room, a fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a great room with a dining area, and large flat screen TV, DVD player, WIFI, books, games and movies. Best of all, no neighbors in sight.
Find us by heading west up the scenic pass from Colorado Springs on Hwy 24, about a 35 minute drive. You'll pass the glorious Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Pikes Peak Cog Railway and the charming town of Manitou Springs where you can hike the very steep 'Incline' if you dare or eat and shop till you drop. Play at the old-fashioned Penny Arcade and then proceed west again on Hwy 24. You'll pass a few more quirky and sweet mountain towns and arrive in Woodland Park, the largest of the local mountain towns. Stop for an apple fritter the size of your head at The Donut Mill and notice many other dining options. See the Dinosaur Resource Center, a Friday Farmer's Market (in season) and beautiful Rampart Reservoir, hidden above town. Continue west on Hwy 24 with a quick photo op stop at Edlowe Rd. on your left, Just past the new hospital, where you'll see Pike's Peak in a picture postcard setting. Back on the road, still heading west to through the town of Divide. A left there on highway 67 South, would take you on a beautiful scenic mountain drive to the old mining and new gambling town of Cripple Creek. Lots of history there. When you venture that way, you should stop at 'The Crags', our very favorite 4 mile hike, with amazing rock formations and stunning views which just may rival parts of the Grand Canyon. There is a lone tree at the top that has been so twisted by age and wind, it looks like an ancient olive tree. Mueller State Park is also in that direction. Back to our route. From Divide, continue west on Hwy 24 and turn left at Twin Rocks Road, pass the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center where you can howl with the wolves, go another half mile and turn left onto Trout Lake Rd. Almost there. Take an immediate right on Kutsu Ridge Road, at the top, drive through two open gates and another 100 yards or so and you've arrived at #5, The GreenHouse at Kutsu Point on your left.
Once you've settled in, check out the Florissant Fossil Beds, 11 Mile Canyon where our kids go rock-climbing, and fly-fishing in the 'dreamstream' or South Platte River. If you are really ambitious, Breckenridge, a gorgeous ski resort town is 80 miles northwest of us. The Royal Gorge is a scenic 70 minute drive west of us and an excursion you'll not want to miss.
When you've conquered all that there is to see and do, (ours was the short list), come back to the GreenHouse, simply sit back, take a deep breath and truly savor the exquisite Rocky Mountain Altitude with your newfound Colorado Attitude!

Mountainside Oasis
The "Green House" is by far one of the most beautiful and hospitable locations my family and I have stayed in near the Woodland Park area. Val and Don are terrific hosts, and their friendly watch dogs Chance and Roxy are great company! There was nothing about this stay that I could complain about; and the house was absolutely perfect for a getaway in the mountains. This was the first house I have stayed in where there wasn't something wrong. The hot tub was perfect, and never had an issue; the firepit was always stocked with wood ready to go (was filled up while we were out exploring after several nightly fires), a wonderful play area for children and young teens and plenty of property to explore. The rooms were updated, and appliances worked without issues. The house is perfect for two families of four, or one larger family. The beds are fairly new feeling and don't have indentations of bodies which have slept before. There is plenty of options for cooking and most of the utensils you will need; and several locations around the property where you can sit and relax/drink while enjoying the wonderful view! Truly, if you are looking for an oasis in the forest/mountain, this would be the home!

Beautiful
The pictures do not do this beautiful home justice. The inside was just as beautiful as the outside. We all really enjoyed our stay.

Incredible views for days...
This was the perfect rental and setting for our crew of 10, ranging from 4 to 60 years! The home was spacious, comfortable, and had the most stunning views. Added bonuses were the large play area, lots of outdoor seating/dining including a fire pit, the hot tub, and regular visits from Rosie and Chance. The bit of a drive beyond Woodland Park was well worth the views and privacy the property offered and the hosts were as welcoming and friendly as could be. Wouldn't hesitate to book this beautiful rental and it's scenic views again and again! Thanks Val & Don for the perfect place to make family memories!

Great again
This is our 2nd trip to Val and Don's property. First time was with my wife and kids in '19, this time we brought more family to enjoy it with us. Everybody loved it as expected. Val and Don are great and everything we needed was there. In '19 we did a lot of excursions to local sites, this time we planned to spend most of the time at the property hanging out cause that's how wonderful it is! Thanks again Val and Don, we'll be back!

Beautiful Property, People & Pups!
We loved spending time with Val and Don, and their gentle giants, Roxy and Chance. The property is breathtaking and has every creature comfort you could want (and maybe some you didn't know you needed!). We only wish we'd had more time to explore the property and surrounding area!
