The hotel is lovely and comfortable (soft bed which was a pleasant surprise for us in Korea), and the staff really nice and helpful. The hotel is secluded in the mountain with a great view. We did however experience a drawback with the two dogs owned by the hotel. Although the dogs are friendly and secured with a leash, they howled and barked quite a bit during our stay. I had a hard time falling asleep, and was woken up by their barking on the two mornings we spent at the hotel around 7:00-7:30am. One of them appears to be younger, and is still probably being trained by the hotel owners. It really is a shame as the rest of our experience as JY Pension was amazing. el and staff is lovely, in a secluded area in the mountains.

A country retreat in lovely surroundingsPosted Oct 10, 2016
Pros: The quiet surroundings and space on site to relax
Cons: The owners have little English (it recently changed hands) and they do not yet know the area well to suggest walks etc. I think this will change.
Location: A long way out of Gyeongju! It's best appreciated as a centre for relaxation and healthy walks.
This is the perfect antidote to busy urban Korea. Here's where to discover a little about country life, to take some energetic walks in the wooded countryside, or simply to relax. The owners are willing and able, for a modest fee, to drive you to attractions in the area, but in fact, it's lovely just to take the time to draw breath in this quiet attractive place. They'll provide great breakfasts and evening meals if you want them.

Great mountain retreat near historic cityPosted Sep 16, 2016
Pros: Charming hosts, beautiful mountain setting.
Location: Close to a 1000-year cultural center of Korea. A major museum and many reconstructed historic buildings and artifacts.
JY Pension is a Western-style retreat located at the head of a densely-forested mountain valley outside Gyeong-ju, former capital of the long-lived Silla empire. The setting is quiet and attractive. Each unit has full kitchen facilities and a balcony with trestle table. A group dining facility has beverages including wine and beer for purchase as well as do-it-yourself barbecue. Optional breakfast is western as well, with bacon, eggs, toast, coffee and juice. The new hosts are a charming young couple that go out of their way to insure a pleasant stay. For those traveling without a car the host provides transportation as required for a modest fee. A major attraction of the region is the historical artifacts within Gyeong-ju city relating to the 1000-year-old Silla dynasty. Ongoing archeological excavations are extensive as are the many restored buildings.

Nice quiet retreatPosted Jul 13, 2016 on Hotels
The room was spacious enough and the eating area/ kitchenette had just what you would need. Besides, you can rent a grill from the owner for 5000 won/ person (charcoal included). If you do plan on eating there, do bring food with you as there are no grocery shops nearby. In fact, there is nothing nearby...this is very much off the beaten path. For the coffee lover, the owner has a little "coffee shop" where he can brew a latte for you. The place is well maintained and even though this was in no way a negative observation, it would be good to know for those who are allergic ...there is some minor mold around. Otherwise, great location and great service from the owner! Thank you.

We really enjoyed our stay in this great pension. Mr. Moon and his wife were terrific hosts and very helpful with suggestions for restaurants and places to see. Would stay here again next time we are in the area.

Great place, great servicePosted Jan 29, 2016 on Hotels
A superb stay! Mr Moon is ever ready to serve and he is very hospitable. A very fairy tale like place which is worthy to be on Korean movies. The pictures are exactly what you will expect. The hotel is situated at the middle of a national park so enjoy the tranquil and quietness around.

Wonderful gem in the mountains of GyeongjuPosted Nov 25, 2015 on Hotels
Great place to stay with a group or family! Away from the noise of the city, this is a great place to stay if you love mountains and nature. Great views and access to hiking trails are a big plus and if you stay during fall as I did, you get to see some amazing fall colors! The owners of the pension are super friendly and offer great information for attractions near by. The pension also offers meals (at very reasonable costs) for when you don't feel like heading out to eat. Highly recommended!
