Private Family House with Ocean/Mountain Views

Sanitized to Covid-19 regulations. Secluded home offers unparalleled views of the ocean and Mauna Kea. It is a recently built home which increases the level of comfort. It is situated on a farm with an array of livestock. Nearby, you may explore the quaint town of Honomu with its shops and sugar plantation era charm. Also, just down the road is the epic Akaka Falls State Park (one of the most visited attractions in Hawaii). Spread out and relax in all of the space this large home offers.

This space is best suited for families or small groups, offering a spacious living area and open floor plan to the kitchen and dining area. Portable crib, and highchair available upon request. The TV is equipped with streaming service (no cable) so you can stream content to entertain the kids each evening. We know you will enjoy watching the ocean or spotting whales (season permitting) from the private lanai (porch) at the front. The kitchen is well equipped for you to prepare any meals. Be sure to stock up on groceries before leaving Hilo or Kona as there are only small road-side restaurants and limited stores on the Hamakua Coast (our neighborhood), that close before 6 pm.

This rental home is situated in a duplex (two family home). There will be other people staying in the other house, however these units are very well separated connected only by a carport (no adjoining walls).

We will provide you with step-by-step directions to the property to make it easy to check-in so do not worry about late arrivals. The roads to the house are all paved and easily navigable with any type of car.

Our location in East Hawaii is a tropical rainforest area. It does rain here periodically. It wouldn't be so beautiful and green without it. Additionally, East Hawaii is known for its beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, and stunning ocean cliffs and is not known for its beaches. There are several beach parks in the area such as Kole Kole (1 miles away), Honoli'i (8 miles away), and in Hilo (10 miles away).

This farm has two free-roaming dogs on the property which help us protect against wild pigs. Don't mind their bark! They are very friendly and will come say hello when you arrive.

The owner lives on the same property nearby and is available to answer questions 24 hours a day (direct cell phone number provided after booking). However, most reservations will be self check-in, with detailed instructions provided. Your host will assume you want privacy unless you reach out.

Details guests must know:
Must climb stairs: There is about 1/2 of a flight of stairs leading up to the entrance
Pet(s) live on property: Friendly, free-roaming dogs and cats (outside only)
Some spaces are shared: The washer and dryer are used by the neighboring rental
Amenity limitations: This is a 100% solar, off-grid home. Guests may be asked to conserve
Surveillance or recording devices on property: At the gate and all entrances

Very nice place, worked well for our family. I would suggest adding grip strips to the front stairway, it is very slick when wet.

Family of Four - Great Place to Stay!!
This place was awesome. We ended up stranded in Hawaii after our flight was cancelled and found this lovely place last minute. The Good: 1. The farm is awesome! We have a 2 and 3 year old and they loved the animals. You can feed them and the animals were all friendly. 2. The ocean view is great and you can watch the sunrise. 3. Location is great. A little over an hour to Hapuna Beach and close to Hilo for shopping, etc. Heads up: 1. The house (duplex) is solar powered so you have to watch how much you use at night/cloudy. Not a deal breaker but worth knowing. 2. No microwave. This is likely due to the solar as microwave use a lot of power. We made do with the propane gas oven/stove. 3. The house is a duplex with a shared living lanai area in between. There is no shared walls and we didn’t mind this at all! Overall we would highly recommend this for anyone who loves animals! The farm is super cool and we had a great time!

Secluded, quiet, clean and spacious.
My cousin, two of my aunts and myself stayed overnight for a country concert at the Grand Naniloa in Hilo on December 29th, 2023. Being from the country on Oahu, this place felt like home. Super spacious with beautiful ocean views. The open layout of the kitchen, dining and living rooms are perfect for families. Owner was friendly and accommodating. One of the cleanest VRBO’s that I’ve stayed in. I’d say it’s tied for first place, in my book. Saved this property because I was impressed and intend on staying here again when on Hilo side. On a side note: the drive from the property in Honomu to Hilo was a peaceful 15-20 minutes.

Amazing wide open view of the ocean
Great roomy property to stay at for a family. Adjacent properties below are crops, so the view to the Pacific Ocean is wide and open. Morning sunrise is absolutely gorgeous. The property is about 20min north of Hilo and close to Akaka Falls; a great place to station for exploring the Hamakua coast. We booked only 1 night because our nearby VRBO stay wasn't available for the last day of our trip. Sandy is very nice and gracious. We recommend this property to anyone.
