A Peaceful Solar Houseboat at Anchor in the Keys
Adults-only houseboat in Key Largo
***This Houseboat is for Adventurous Campers*** Welcome to The Shark Pup, a floating retreat anchored in calm Key Largo waters. Enjoy boat life as you bob in the still waters. Fish and swim from your deck. Sight see on your way over to the boat on your tandem kayak that you can use to transport yourself to and from shore (Sundolphin tender can be rented additionally). Please read all the way through to ensure you have a complete understanding of what this outdoor adventure entails! After meeting your on location host you will be on your way through beautiful waters which are home to the tropical wildlife found in the Keys. You are only a minute from the quiet inlet where we launch our kayaks, but ask you paddle around you may see manatee, dolphins, tarpon, iguana, the Great White Heron etc. Use this kayak for the entirety of your stay, taking full advantage of a sunrise or sunset paddle that will give you a view like no other from right on the water. All our units come with a tandem kayak (weight limit 400lbs) to transport you in and out to your unit. The paddle out from our little inlet is only a minute or two long. Using a kayak allows you to paddle back and forth after dark and also stay during more windy weather. We also have private 9.4ft water tender dinghies that can be rented for $75 the first day and $50 every day after during your stay (must be docked at the marina 30 minutes before sundown). These are set up with 2018 Suzuki or Yamaha motors, ranging from 2.5-4hp. First tank of fuel is on us! There is a weight requirement due to the size of our tenders, all cargo (humans and baggage) cannot exceed 450 pounds. Our host can show you the dinghy, gives you a run down of the safety equipment and how to run the motor. These tenders CANNOT be used after sundown, which is why all guests are given a complimentary kayak with their rental. If you wish to have a tender added to your stay please let us know and we will prepare it for you. This cost can be paid cash at check in to our host, a receipt will be given. The dinghy boats take a different, longer route to the units and some days the wind does not allow this to safely take place. It is up to the discretion of our local host if the tenders are rentable day by day due to the forecasted weather. Once you arrive at The Shark Pup you will find an outdoor bar with seating area, across from a Coleman BBQ under the shade of a palm tree, giving you a true island vacation feel with spectacular views. Swim, fish, snorkel or sight see right from the front of your deck. Inside the houseboat grab a cold drink from the fridge and settle on your premium coil futon mattress, which pulls out into a full bed for those nights you get to fall asleep gently swaying on the water. Enjoy a late night DVD on your 40" flatscreen television or sit under the stars taking in every ounce of Key Largo beauty. The TV has no antennae out on the water, so be sure to bring along any entertainment you wish to enjoy. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, silverware and BBQ utensils, as is the unit with towels and bed linens. Bathroom facilities on The Shark Pup include a Dometic marine chemical toilet and a hand held Helio rinse off shower for a quick bathe on the deck after your mid day swim. The shower is air temperature and filled at your sink. The main full indoor, hot shower and indoor bathroom are available to you at the marina where you dock your dinghy. Our wonderful online and on location hosts will be in touch with you from booking onwards and will be there at the marina to greet you, show you your kayak, explain your cabin and then leave you to relax! Check in must happen at the pre arranged times (230 or 4), so please arrange to arrive early and grab a bite to eat or cold drink at the Blackwater Siren while you wait. Once you’ve arrived at the marina with secured, onsite parking (please bring $10/day cash for the marina parking), and have boarded your kayak, you will only have a quick paddle out to your cabin. Nearby you can find local hot spots such as Blackwater Siren restaurant with great food, entertainment and drinks, as well as Gilbert’s Restaurant which boasts the largest Tiki Bar in the Florida Keys. There you will also find great food, drinks, live entertainment, as well as lounge chairs on a beautifully maintained beach available for you to relax, order food or a drink, and perhaps dive into a long awaited novel. Jet ski rentals, kayak rentals and other water sport activities are also available on the beach. This houseboat is eco friendly, being fully powered by solar energy from the Florida sun! The views from this vacation, and the relaxation you feel, will be etched in your memory and a reminder of your adventure filled Key Largo vacation! Please note that this means you must be conscious of your power usage. Please no appliances that pull large energy loads, like hair dryers etc, or you will quickly use up the stored power and have to wait for the batteries to recharge. DISCLAIMER: This is an outdoor experience reserved for camping, outdoors, adventurous people. Please do not book this if you cannot be flexible with weather, wildlife or the water. You are on the water and on a still night there may be mosquitos so please come prepared with your choice of bug repellant. As a reminder, like camping, there is no AC. We do offer an exhaust fan, bedside fan and a bug screen so you can keep your door open during the night. Seeing as you are in the Keys you most likely won't be spending your days in doors, so just bring light sleeping attire to keep you cool. We do not offer full refunds if you cannot make it due to travel delays, bad weather or user error with the units. Please pack light! You reach your unit with a tandem kayak which can fit a bag/cooler between your legs. Kristy can help bring out some items at your check in, but you would need to bring those items back in at self check out. There is also minimal storage on board. We advise that if you are staying in the area for awhile that you pack an overnight bag to take while you campout on our units. Guests must be relatively fit to be able to paddle out, climb the swim ladder onto the unit and spend their vacation in a smaller area. Check in times are 230 and 4! We need to run our check in like a boat charter as it takes about 30 min for check in and we need to ensure everyone gets settled before sundown. Our on location host will be in touch with you prior to your arrival to confirm and we ask that you respect her time and arrive within the allotted time. There will be a fee if she has to return to the marina after hours to check you in. Absolutely NO CHECK INS AFTER SUNDOWN. If significant travel delays happen you will need to find other accommodation for the night as we cannot check in a guest after dark. Best plan is to aim to arrive early, enjoy the area, connect with our host and she can often check in guests earlier if possible! Thank you for reading this in its entirety and considering the Shark Pup for your unique getaway experience! Please reach out if you have any questions :) Other things to note: We wanted to explain our cleaning fee. Yes, we do understand it is higher than most around the area. Our housekeeper has to haul jugs of water to the units on a dinghy, along with linens and other cleaning supplies, she removes and empties the toilets and requires the extra time to boat to and from all the units. It is quite different than a land clean and we appreciate the very physical tasks that come with cleaning our units. Therefore we always want to be upfront with our guests. That fee goes entirely to our housekeeper. We are not trying to raise the accommodation fee by hiding it in the cleaning fee. It all goes directly to her and we appreciate the hard work she does attending to our units :) We truly appreciate when our guests leave the unit tidy, as does our lovely housekeeper :) Thank you for your understanding, and we cannot wait to host you on your amazing floating vacation!
Guest accommodations at this houseboat offer DVD players. Rooms open to patios. Kitchens offer separate dining areas and cookware/dishes/utensils.
